Travel between Anchorage/ Seward/ Whittier

Hello,

I am seeking your advice on the following.  We will fly to Anchorage 2 nights pre-cruise out of Whittier.  We want to take a day tour to Kenai Fjord in Seward.  Based on what I have read, there is not much in Whittier to see, so we have to get back to the hotel in Anchorage and then travel to Whittier the day of the cruise.  I wonder if we should stay in a hotel in Seward the whole time and then take a train to Whittier the day of instead of staying in Anchorage.

Please share your thoughts.  Thank you.

You can't take the train between Whittier and Seward - both ports have only one line, heading to Anchorage, and I believe the train timings are such that you have to overnight in Anchorage if you want to take the train rather than the road. You'll also get more eyes on this question if it is moved to Alaska Ports of Call or West Coast Departures boards (technically the 'most correct' since this is a question about pre-cruise time and departure ports, Whittier/Seward are almost never a 'port of call')
