I think I'd be sick if I had chips and fries for breakfast! An overload of salt carbs and fat can do that.  Or maybe he was already sick with a virus and it had nothing to do with what he ate/drank.  You don't get super sick with simple food poisioning - you throw up for a few hours, and so long as you don't get dehydrated - that's the end of it.  This sounds far more like a virus if he was in the medical centre for days
