Howdy from Texas! Thank you for your new thread on the Need Help Using the Forums? Check Here! forum. 👍 However, please note the following information is at the top of each page in this forum: Note: This area is intended only for questions and answers relating to technical assistance in using these message boards. Please do not post general cruise-related questions or Roll Calls here. Since your inquiry concerns a specific cruise line ship, I have moved your thread to the Cunard Line forum where it will be more on-topic. The majority of your fellow Cruise Critic members that have sailed QM2 frequent the forum and will provide you feedback there. Please browse through the thread titles on the forum looking for threads of interest. You will probably find your fellow Cruise Critic members have already posted questions and received answers that will be of interest to you. Cruise Critic is a great resource for all cruisers, whether new or experienced, and we are so glad you found us! Please feel free to browse the Cruise Critic Community Categories list. Read a few threads in the different forums to get a feel for what each forum is about. Make sure you read any pinned threads on top of the first page of threads in a forum. You will find very important instructions or information there that will be helpful. Please remember the following stated in the Guidelines we all agreed to follow when registering for our free memberships: Browse Before You Post Browse a topic first to see if your question has already been asked or answered by someone else. Also, many of the major cruise lines forums have a FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) topic that has been created by our members. Give that a try first. Browsing is your #1 best resource! Please post your messages in an appropriate topic so that you'll receive the best possible response. It is very time consuming to move misplaced messages that are in the wrong topics. Anytime you need to start a new thread on a forum, first make sure you are in the correct forum for your topic. Word your new thread title in a way to help the members know exactly the information you seek. This greatly helps the members browsing through the thread titles and if they know the information they will reply to you. It is best to limit each inquiry to only one topic or concerning one cruise line, one ship, one port of call, etc. and of course, on the correct forum. You will get more replies that way. Be sure to mention your cruise line, ship, port or sail date in your inquiry. It will help the members to have the information they need in order to help you. The Roll Call thread for your line, ship and sail date is the place for you to get to know the other Cruise Critic members sailing with you before the cruise. Your fellow Roll Call members may have important information posted in your Roll Call thread, especially ones that have sailed your line, ship or itinerary before. Also, the Roll Call thread for your cruise is the ONLY place on Cruise Critic where you and your fellow Roll Call members are allowed to post personal ads about sharing tours, excursions, transportation etc. with each other to save money. There is a "captive audience" since you are all sailing together! You will receive a much better response to your share request if you take some time to read the entire Roll Call thread, post an introductory post about yourself, and continue on with more posts to get to know the other members and allow them to get to know YOU first before you post your share request. That is the spirit of our Roll Calls. To explain our Roll Calls and finding the Roll Call thread for your cruise, please read What is a Roll Call? Everything you Need to Know and How To: Create A New Roll Call . For more information about our famous Roll Calls, please read the Roll Calls and Our Policy Regarding Facebook and Roll Calls sections in the Guidelines. Since you do not mention your sail date I cannot direct you to the Roll Call thread for your cruise. I sincerely hope all this information will be helpful. So sorry this is such a long post, but we are so glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic and just wanted to give you some of the highlights about being a member. Happy sails, Host Kat
MarkBearSF Posted February 16, 2020 #3 Share Posted February 16, 2020 Hi, I've not been in 5021, but it's a standard inside cabin. It's on Deck 5 which is good because you have cabins both above and below. (And since it's an inside cabin, the sheltered/glass front balcony question isn't an issue. Personally, I'm not a fan of inside cabins and would want at least an oceanview window for 35 days. That said, Cunard cabins are well designed with more storage than on other lines (although I believe about the same amount of space). Even if there were no cabins above and below, the cabins on the QM2 are well soundproofed. You're quite far forward, close to the A elevators to the wonderful Commodore Club and Library and the Spa (and the 2 Deck elevators near the front exits from Illuminations after lectures). Not far from the B Elevators to the Royal Court Theatre, the Atrium, Chart Room, Golden Lion Pub, Shops, Guest Services, and the Casino.
Underwatr Posted February 16, 2020 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2020 (edited) Apparently 5021 is a quad, but since the 3rd and 4th beds pull down from the ceiling the only indication of that would be the two rectangular hatches where the heads pull down. I've been in that general area a few times, in sheltered balcony 5031. As MarkBearSF notes, it's a convenient location, a couple of decks below the buffet and a couple of decks above Decks 2 and 3 where most of the public venues are. The ones that aren't on 2 and 3 are mostly just a ride up the A lifts. QM2 doesn't move much in the weather but you might notice the bow pitching up and down a bit. It's how you know you're on a ship Edited February 16, 2020 by Underwatr
cruiseluvva Posted February 18, 2020 #5 Share Posted February 18, 2020 I was once in 5225 - the only inside I have ever had. The cabin was standard inside, and it was a convenient location, however, I felt enormous pitching in the stormy North Atlantic and one night it was so bad I was thrown out of bed, hurting my shoulder on the adjacent wall. My fault for sleeping near the edge maybe.... Personally I would not choose so far forward again - neither would I choose an inside, but that’s because I felt huge claustrophobia in there with no balcony. QM2 doesn't move much in the weather but you might notice the bow pitching up and down a bit. It's how you know you're on a ship. A bit? From my experience the QM2, despite being the most stable ship I have ever sailed in, can pitch a lot. We have had staterooms in the forward section twice - once on Deck 10 and once on Deck 13. Although they were not as far forward as the stateroom in question, the motion on one night on each voyage was considerable. When I had to get up in the night I was thrown about. On one voyage I was lucky not to have broken a rib or two when thrown against the edge of the bathroom door. The state of the sea is, of course, unpredictable. But if motion is a concern, Shreksner, you might want to be moved closer to midships. Having said that, I am not put off by the possibility of rough weather in a forward stateroom. On an upcoming 21-day voyage we have booked a sheltered balcony (at a very good fare) on Deck 5 which is only six staterooms further aft than the one in question.
Underwatr Posted February 19, 2020 #8 Share Posted February 19, 2020 QM2 in the Atlantic has never pitched for me as much as QV did a day west of California. Everyone's experience is different though. I'm usually in a stateroom forward of the B lifts regardless of deck. I like to feel some motion.
