Pre-exisiting condition

I just booked a British Isles Cruise for September, 2021. We both have hypertension controlled with medication. Is this considered a pre-exisiting condition? If so, and I purchase insurance now, what happens if say in 6 months, way before PIF date and airfare purchased, we decide not to take cruise? Would we get a refund, or loose our money? Thanks

Yes, it is a pre-existing condition; but as long as you are stable, it is not an issue. The only way it would be a factor is if your RX  changed within the look-back period, and it subsequently caused a problem that would result in cancellation. 

 

If you cancel before paying final payment or booking air, you should get back your deposit - assuming you booked with a refundable deposit. No harm, no foul. If you buy insurance now and cancel before final payment, you will not get back the cost of insurance, but you may be able to transfer it to a later cruise.

 

If aren’t sure what you want to do in the current situation, you can wait until final payment  to buy insurance with pre-existing conditions waivers, and according to InsureMyTrip, even Cancel for Any Reason. That is your only hope as long as coronavirus is an issue. Who knows where we’ll be by September.

 

To put it simply, before final payment, you have nothing at risk as long as you booked a refundable deposit. You can cancel at anytime before final payment and get your money back. The risk comes when you enter the penalty phase after final payment or booking air. You can still buy insurance at final payment.  Call one of the insurance brokers recommended here, and let them explain you choices. They can help you weigh risk/benefit.
