benchmarklearning Posted February 8, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2006 We are planning our first cruise next month out of San Diego on the Oostedam. This message board has been very helpful, but I have a few questions. Are the differences between a Deluxe Verandah Suite and a Superior Verandah suite sufficient to justify the substantial price difference? What is the best deck to be on? What about front/back/middle (sorry for the lack of knowing the terminology). Thanks in advance!
shonuf Posted February 9, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2006 We usually book the deluxe suite. We think it is worth the difference in price. Larger cabin, tub and shower, full size sofa, preferred embarkation and disembarkation, preferred tendering, the huge aft balconies on the Vista class ships (we were just in 5187 on the "O"), suite cocktail party, suite luncheon, afternoon hors d'oeuvres or high in en suite, hors d'oeuvres for your own en suite party, use of the Neptune lounge and the wonderful concierges, and of course my personal favorite----free laundry! As to location, different strokes for different folks. If you are worried about sea-sickness, pick the mid-ship on the lowest deck possible. If you think you would really use the Neptune lounge, pick a nearby suite. If you want the largest balcony, choose the aft (back). It's hard to go wrong either way. Krazy Kruizers Posted February 9, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2006 We always book the full suites as well. Love early embarkation, disembarkation, tender priority, Neptune Lounge. On the Vista class ships we book midship so as to be closer to the Neptune Lounge.
grannynurse Posted February 9, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 9, 2006 The SS cabins are approx 120 sq feet smaller than the full suites but still have the extra shower stall and double sinks in the bathroom. The couch only opens to a single bed and is straight not wrap around. I believe that the verandas are approximately the same size depending on location. The biggest difference beyond size are the suite amenities that you only have in the S and PS categories. If you can live without the extras stick with the SS. jhannah Posted February 9, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 9, 2006 Only you can answer whether or not the extra cost for an S cabin is worth it. It depends on what you want your experience to be. If you just want extra room, the SS cabins are quite spacious. And the bathrooms, as noted, are wonderful. But if you're looking for more personalized service, priority "care and handing," then the deluxe verandah suite will be worth it to you. Good luck in making your choice.
