desperatehousewife Posted February 14, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2006  I hear different things.... I wondered if it were worth it for a shore excursion? Any comments?
Cotton Posted February 14, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 14, 2006 I haven't been there in awhile, but enjoyed it when I was there. I wasn't on a cruise, just flew in for a few days. I'd like to go again just to see "our" Marine Life dolphins. They were recently shipped to Atlantis after they became homeless from Katrina.:o Maybe somebody can give you more recent info. hockeyluver Posted February 14, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 14, 2006 We were there on our Fascination cruise, we were supposed to go to Cozumel but because of someone getting sick on the ship we didnt make it and diverted there instead. We loved it. Did the excursion offered by carnival had a lovely guided tour had our two teen daughters with us and they also loved it.
McDebbie Posted February 14, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 14, 2006 We were there in September 2005, it's worth a shot just to see the casino and shops and the Aquarium. We didn't do the ship's tour, just took the ferry over and a taxi back. There wasn't much else in Nassau that we wanted to see.
LHP Posted February 14, 2006 #6 Share Posted February 14, 2006 and loved it only because our youngest son is an aquarium fanatic. The first time we paid the ticket price. The second time we were at the hotel/aquarium at 7:30am and the ticket office did not open until 8AM. Since we already knew where to go, we just made ourselves at home walking around for a couple of hours ...like we owned the place. No one said a thing. Flintstone Posted February 15, 2006 #7 Share Posted February 15, 2006 My best advise would be to skip the ship's excursion and book a room for the day at Comfort Suites across the street. (Ship's excursion is just not worth the $$ they charge for what you get to do.) With a CS room, you have full access and privledges at Atlantis. We checked in about 9AM and out about 3:30PM. Had an absolute blast! I don't believe they actually have "Day Rooms"..but we checked in and out the same day with no problems!!! (I think they're used to it with when ships are in port.) IMHO...no sense in going to Atlantis if you can't experience the pool areas!!! Just amazing!!!!!! Deb
Jabee Posted February 15, 2006 #8 Share Posted February 15, 2006 I'd like to go again just to see "our" Marine Life dolphins. They were recently shipped to Atlantis after they became homeless from Katrina.:o So that is where the Marine Life dolphins ended up... well..they are in a nice place.... We went to Atlantis after dark, (while on the Celebration) and you can see the "Dig" for free, because they do not charge then. I loved it....the sting rays were absolutely incredible and even more fun to watch then when we swam with them in Grand Cayman... Oh...Taxis are $4 or $5 a person for a one way trip from the pier to Atlantis. There is also a water taxi (up until 6.) We had no problems getting to and from Atlantis and spent three hours walking around the place. Oh..and Cotton.... check it out....you convinced me to try the Holiday after all!!! I have a wedding to go to in Jackson on Oct. 9, and then drive to Mobile for a fun week!!! JB
Bluecat25 Posted February 15, 2006 #9 Share Posted February 15, 2006 We stayed at Atlantis for a few days and loved it. I would take a cruise just so we could take the kids for the day to Atlantis. They didn't get to go with us the first time. Have fun!

sweetaspeaches22 Posted February 15, 2006 #11 Share Posted February 15, 2006 We visited Atlantis during our port of call in Nassau. We didnt do the carnival shore excursion we just hooked up with one of the tour guides that are waiting as you get off the ship. He took us around the island and also to Atlantis for $20. I enjoyed it seeing the casino, aquarium, and just the inside of the hotel is nice. Also took a pic in the famous huge, huge golden chair right outside of the casino. People were lined up to take a photo in it. Its good to go just to say that you were there. sunsetme Posted February 15, 2006 #12 Share Posted February 15, 2006 I stayed there for a week a couple of years ago. In Dec 05 we were on the Liberty and we took the in laws there for the day. it was a wonderful day--we had great weather, we booked a room on exp###ia.com for $115. I would recommend it. kujobie Posted February 15, 2006 #13 Share Posted February 15, 2006 It's about the only worthwhile thing to see in Nassau, IMO. And you don't hafta rent a room across the street or pay $25, or more, to see it. We just took a cab there ($4 or $5) and walked around a while, then walked to the public beach next to it (Paradise Beach?) which was very nice. Then another cab back to the ship. It's the best $9 I ever spent considering there ain't much else to do in Nassau.
Flintstone Posted February 15, 2006 #14 Share Posted February 15, 2006 When I was there (albeit a couple years ago), they were VERY strict in keeping you out of the pool areas if you were not a guest of Atlantis or CS. An employee was stationed at just about every entranceway looking for wrist bands. Yes you can go to the restaurants, casino and pay an admission to the digs...but that was it without a wristband. Maybe things have changed! Deb
