sfvoyager Posted February 15, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2006 I read a thread which thoroughly confused me about ports in New York. For the Transatlantic Voyage on the Golden Princess, which port do I go?
Rare Coral Posted February 15, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 15, 2006 According to this website - you will be using the new Brooklyn Red Hook pier: http://www.wirednewyork.com/cruises/brooklyn/ I would look at your cruise docs when they come in to make sure there is not any changes. The Queen Mary will be using this pier in April so if there are any problems, they will know in April.
sfvoyager Posted February 15, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted February 15, 2006 Thank you for the update! I wonder if the ship will still pass the statue of liberty on her way out. I would be sorry to miss that experience if it is starting at another location. Anyone know how this would go?
captajohnx Posted February 15, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 15, 2006 if the golden leaves from the manhattan cruise piers (pr 86 to 88) you will sail right next to the statue on the way out. if the golden sails from the new red hook pier you will either pass right next to the statue, or very near by. (depending on which way the ship departs the dock, and goes around governors island) if you sail from port liberty (actually new jersey) (i think i have only seen rccl using that pier though) you will be about 2 miles from the statue. you can see the statue from there, but it is not quite as nice as being right beside it! JohnLauben Posted February 15, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 15, 2006 You will definitely pass right by the Status of Liberty when arriving/departing the Red Hook terminal. It's just that the statue will be 5 minutes from the terminal (Red Hook), as opposed to 40 minutes from the terminal (Manhattan).
sfvoyager Posted February 15, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted February 15, 2006 That's great news. I am sure that will be a very emotionally exciting start to what promises to be a wonderful voyage. I am going to surprise mom for her 80th Birthday. She immigrated to the United States on the Bremen Line in 1960, so I am sure this will be awesome.
