hortige Posted February 16, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2006 If you used a TA and you notice things like prices going down or you found a coupon can you contact a carnival PVP or do you need to go through your TA. (do you have to wait to get your docs if you can use the carnival PVP?) The reason I am asking is I tried to use the coupon I found at the time of booking and my TA told me that carnival was not honering it because the ship was filling up fast, but now the price of the room I booked has went down $20 per person. I have a feeling my TA will say I cannot get shipboard credit or cannot get a discount/money back since I have booked. I wish I would have used carnival because they were the same price as everywhere else (even online) so I might could have done the above.

Cotton Posted February 16, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 16, 2006 Habby is correct. If you are booking through an outside agency, Carnival will not 'interfere' with that booking. All questions must go through your booking agent. This is the way it has worked for me... I always book through a Carnival PVP (same one). When I've seen a price drop, I've called her. If it's before final payment, I've been given a reduced fare, thus reducing my final payment. If it's after final payment, I've received shipboard credits. micbooth Posted February 16, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2006 Earlier this month I made final payment on my cruise for May 2006. We received the Currents magazine and it had our cruise on there for alot less than what we paid. We contacted our TA and got $390.00 off the price of the cruise. Money to spend on drinks and casino. MeLuvDaSea Posted February 16, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 16, 2006 Now-a-days, I always book through the Carnival pvp. I don't understand what the TAs do for you. My first 2 cruises were through a TA, and his prices were never better than booking direct with Carnival. I got no repeat customer discounts, nothing at all in the way of an incentive to use him. What is the function of TAs? What am I missing? I know they serve a purpose and I'm not trying to insult any TAs among the CC members, but I would like an answer. The last straw for me came when I was in a 3-way conversation with my TA and a Carnival representative. Out of the blue my TA told the rep. that this was an anniversary cruise and we deserved a free cake and champaign. What was wrong with this? It was absolutely not our anniversary, we had never discussed such a thing, and I was appalled that he lied on my behalf! :(
Jasonsterling Posted February 16, 2006 #6 Share Posted February 16, 2006 Would it be possible to transfer the booking from your original TA to a Carnival PVP or perhaps to an agency more willing to go through the trouble with coupons or when there are price drops? I've never done anything like that (haven't had to so far, thankfully) but it seems like I've read discussions on here before about doing that sort of thing. May be a solution to your problem. mnsawyer Posted February 17, 2006 #7 Share Posted February 17, 2006 I haven't used at TA for a few years. Last year, the TA I had was horrible and did nothing but have had many mailings and e-mails from a great PVP. She has been wonderful. Haven't booked yet though! NRWO Posted February 17, 2006 #8 Share Posted February 17, 2006 No such thing as transferring a TA booking to a PVP, but you can transfer a PVP boooking to a TA.
dms_cruisers04 Posted February 17, 2006 #9 Share Posted February 17, 2006 Why wouldn't you be able to have a TA release a booking back to the cruiseline?
Mysticks1 Posted February 17, 2006 #10 Share Posted February 17, 2006 No such thing as transferring a TA booking to a PVP, but you can transfer a PVP boooking to a TA. I asked this of Carnival just yesterday and was told that it would indeed be possible to transfer your booking from the TA directly to a PVP if you were not happy with the service from the TA. NRWO Posted February 17, 2006 #11 Share Posted February 17, 2006 sorta.. it's more like cancelling the TA booking and making a new one direct.. and it's a very rare circumstance.
jshawnh Posted February 17, 2006 #12 Share Posted February 17, 2006 I have a wonderful TA who saves me several hundred dollars off Carnival's price every time we cruise. I noticed a price drop yesterday for our March 26. 2006 sailing, way after final payment date. She promptly called Carnival for me and called back to let me know I would be getting $240.00 shipboard credit. I love my TA. Carnival has a policy of no advertised prices lower than Carnivals listed price. They can give you a discount after you contact them. With that in mind not all travel agents discount. kcgirl Posted February 17, 2006 #14 Share Posted February 17, 2006 I booked thru carnival (airline discount) for Victory on 2/26 sailing. $419 for 4A inside. Price dropped to $399 but they would not give me the $40 credit (for 2) because I had been upgraded to deck 7 inside. I really feel it was because I had received the airline discount. I felt like it was only $40 but would have been better customer service on Carnival's part to at least give me ship board credit to use. Also this is my 3rd Carnival cruise. I work in an industry that would not hesitate to give the customer that amount back as a good will gesture and also appreciation for being a repeat customer. Small disappointment on my part towards Carnival.

NRWO Posted February 17, 2006 #16 Share Posted February 17, 2006 kc.. come on. You got an intelrine rate which already is significantly lower rate that standard and even resident or past guest rates. On top of that you got a deck upgrade. the $40 drop peobably came out to less that what it would haev been had you booked in to that category to begin with. I suppose CCL could have rescinded your interline rate and gave you a past guest w/free upgrade rate that would have been significantly higher than the interline rate you got. But I'm guessing that would not have made you very happy.
NRWO Posted February 17, 2006 #17 Share Posted February 17, 2006 I would call again, different shift, different day. Possibly you could get a better resolution. Highly unlikely. Whatever supervisor reviewed her booking documented as to why there was no further compensation, so a different sup will simply read that and tell her the same thing she already heard. kcgirl Posted February 18, 2006 #18 Share Posted February 18, 2006 Just because I received the interline rate why should I not get the credit back if the INTERLINE rate dropped? To me it should not matter what special, promotion, past cruiser etc you are. If the price drops below what you paid in the same category/same sailing I think its only fair to receive the credit whether it be as a credit to my Visa card which was the original form of payment or a shipboard credit. Carnival is not the ONLY cruise line that offers Interline rates...they all do! My point is that good customer service for repeat customers should be expected. You should receive service based on what you paid. Actually just because I was upgraded to level 7 is not really an upgrade to me? Its the same exact room only on a different floor. Sorry the interline rate I got seemed to annoy the other poster?
Rare dickinson Posted February 18, 2006 #19 Share Posted February 18, 2006 It makes no difference if you are going interline or not. If you book an 8a for $899 for example and get a free upgrade to an 8c then great. BUT, then when you look at rates later to see if they have dropped you have to look at the rates of 8c because that is what you now have. If 8c is now less than $899 (what you paid) then you can request credit. Hope this helps.
kcgirl Posted February 19, 2006 #20 Share Posted February 19, 2006 Thanks for your post Dickinson. When looking at it the way you explained that makes a little more sense to me. I know I got a great price regardless. Regarding upgrades starting with an inside and remaining with an inside just on another deck is not really an upgrade to me but I know it is to the cruise line. I like the upgrades that take you from an inside to an outside or outside to balcony. Those types are a little more rare. Thanks again for your explanation its appreciated.
