nancy M. Posted May 6, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 6, 2004 I just read on one of the other boards here that if you use a drink coupon it is only good for a drink that is $4.75 of less. Is this true? I just bought $60 worth of drink coupons so that I wouldn't have to pay for them later but I wanted to use them on the $4.95 drinks. Can anyone answer this for me? nancy M. Posted May 6, 2004 Author #3 Share Posted May 6, 2004 So glad to hear it. I was really worried that maybe I had spent that money and wouldn't even brake even with them. Thanks for the reply. I feel much better about planning ahead with them now. Nancy sailing Conquest 6/27/

Crazsea Posted May 6, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 6, 2004 Nancy, The biggest bonus in savings is that if you bought that $4.95 drink there would be a gratuity added in addition. With the coupons, the gratuity is built into the coupon. That's the incentive for buying them. SOOOOO, you did good. Remember, if you buy the drink of the day in that fancy glass the first day, refills in that same glass are $4.95 all week as opposed to $6.25 plus tip for the first one. They will change the glass for you daily if you wish!

PammyHound Posted May 7, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 7, 2004 I use to buy drink coupons but I'm not going to anymore. I always forgot them or even lost them! I'm going to start purchasing gift certificates ahead of time and then just apply them to my s/s card when I board. I had $150 worth on the Conquest and it was nice to see my account at a negative balance the first day! It really helped offset the final balance. betsyrossapk Posted May 7, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 7, 2004 crazsea, Can you explain how the gratuity is built into the drink coupon. If you buy the coupons (4 for $19.50), that is approx $4.90/per drink. But I would think, that should add a tip to the server, shouldn't you. I don't see how any tip is added to the coupons, it just looks like a prepaid drink to me without a tip. Am I wrong? Thanks, Inspiration: 11/4/
serene56 Posted May 7, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 7, 2004 Pammyhound: with those gift certificates dont you have to mail them into Carnival to get the credit? I mean we cant take them with us and just cash them in at the pursers desk?> This was something I ws looking into for my miracle cruise. serene56 Posted May 7, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 7, 2004 THe tip is included in the coupon...first the server is only supposed to serve a drink up to a specified amount. And if you use it for a rum and coke-- beer even-- they just made a lot more money. I was surprised on the number of people using drink coupons for beer or bloody marys. It all works out. If you have a favorite waiter or server give an extra tip and they will remember you through out the cruise. (opps, maybe you didnt go to dinner but then I would think they would deliver them to your cabin. Snowball Posted May 7, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 7, 2004 Cheryl - if you are buying funship dollars for yourself, they will just apply them directly to your account. They only mail you the gift certificates (which then need to be mailed back to Carnival) if you are buying the funship dollars as a gift to someone else. nancy M. Posted May 8, 2004 Author #16 Share Posted May 8, 2004 I am so happy to hear all the good things about these coupons. I will probably be purchasing more before the cruise actually happens. We have 6 weeks before our cruise so there is plenty of time to buy the coupons. It helps to keep the cost of S&S card down so we dont sticker shock from the paper we find under our door. Thanks everyone for all the great info. Nancy sailing Conquest 6/27/
serene56 Posted May 8, 2004 #17 Share Posted May 8, 2004 Well, if you are sailing in 6 weeks that means you only have 5 weeks to buy coupons. I think there is a cut off date to where you can buy stuff. Not sure what it is though.
