Sun help for a first timer!

Hello everyone this will be my first cruise and I could sure use some help. I live in the

Balt

/DC area. The Mar 4th Norwegian sun sails from Miami, FL. I am active duty NAVY and need to have my travel plans down pat before I leave. How easy is it to get from Miami airport to the "Sun's" port? How late should we book the return flight?

PS- Any poker in the casino?

Thanks

Thanks for your support of our Country.

There are port directions on the NCL website that give you miles from various airports to ports.

If I were catching a flight, I'd plan at least 3 hours from debarkation to flight - depending on how far the airport is. You might want to consider buying NCL transfers $50pp.

(You're in the Navy and for leisure you cruise?) That's cute.

First, I also would like to thank you for your service.....

We just returned 1/28 from the Sun...We took a cab from Miami International Airport for only $24.00 (flat rate for both of us.) We also used a cab to return to the airport after the cruise and got there with plenty of time to spare for our 11:30 departure. The ship will have earlier disembarkation for those needing to catch an early flight. We used the internet on the ship and did our "Check In" with the airline the night before, which also saved time. We only had carry-on luggage on the plane which saved even more time. It was a breeze. Happy cruising!

Of course it goes without saying "thank you"

As for leaving, directions from the airport etc, ideally it is best to take an extra day and spend the night in Miami, but if that is out of the question, try to get a flight that will get you into Miami by about 10 or 11am. It takes about 20 minutes to get to the Port of Miami by taxi. The earlier you arrive the sooner you will be on the ship and enjoying your week cruising. At best make certain your flight does not arrive any later than 1pm. Nothing is more nerve racking than worrying about whether or not you will be on the ship before sailing or waving from shore to those who are.

Your return flight should not be booked before noon at the earliest.

Yes, there is Texas hold em in the casino or there used to be. I am sure they still offer it. I don't know about any other form of poker. NMNita

Just got back from the Sun, and they have a poker room (1 table). Dealers are usually ok, although not very chatty, and certainly not quite as proficient as normal casino dealers, but they do get the job done reasonalbly well. The normal game there is $3-$6 Limit holdem. They don't offer cash no limit. They do run a $60 entry holdem tournmament (1 table, 10 players only) about 4 times during the week (they can't open the casino while they are in port). The tournament is a pretty fast structure, you get 20 chips, blinds start at 1-2, then double every 15mins until they max out at 8-16. I played in it twice, got knocked out in 6th the first time, and finished 3rd the 2nd time (won $100).

The 3-6 game only runs when they have at least 4 people interested, so i found it usually got going around 11pm on most days.
