We are going to be in Cozumel in roughly two weeks.  Since Celebrity at this point  is allowing us to disembark independently we are considering one of two tours thru Cozumel Chef.  The food tour and Josesfins's mexican cooking class.  Any thought on which is better or has anyone does these?  Thanks

We have done both of these. Not sure if I would rank one better than the other as they are “different” so will give some brief comments and feel free to ask anything specific.

The food tour met at Mega and then you are driven round to various local locations in the neighborhoods (away from typical tourist areas) to eat various local dishes. Our tour guide was very pleasant and informative. There are several photo intensive reviews online if you want to get some idea of the places you will visit. The tour doesn’t always  go to the same locations but you will sample the same typical items. Beer and flavored waters included. Our experience was very similar to this review:

The cooking class takes place in the kitchen of Josefina. (She was unable to take the class for a while but I understand she has resumed teaching it?) You need to find your own way to the house (a few blocks back from main road) either on foot, or probably in a taxi since you will probably dock at International pier. We were staying on the island at the time but another couple joined our class from one of the ships. You choose, as a group, the main course from Josefina’s recipe book and then walk with her to the local market to purchase the items. You return to the house for a very hands-on cooking class, including preparing regular sides that are always included. It was a relaxing and social event enjoyed even by my husband, who dutifully accompanied me!  Josefina has an assistant who helps with coordinating the cooking and when the food is ready it is served family style.

We found plenty to eat and drink on both tours. Both tours visit the market. Both tours have “set” food but I am sure you can discuss allergies in advance. The food tour is fully escorted from venue to venue with little walking. The cooking tour is in one location mainly, but you need to be able to walk to and from the market.

Thank you , I think we are going to do the food tour.

Hope you enjoy! We enjoyed it, especially the fish. Pace yourself because there is a lot of food. We ended up taking our pastry at the end away with us.

Forgot to mention the tour ends at Mega but there was an option to stay in the van for a ride back to the port for the price of a regular taxi ride, to save you getting another taxi, although there are lots available from Mega or on the main road.

We opted to walk back to the port as we had time to spare and sat and ate the pastry on the way! Feel free if you have any other questions.
