OBC & Gift Cards in Casino

Can OBC be used in the casino to buy chips for table games? If you use it in slot machines can you cash it out like you used to be able to?

Same question for gift cards- can they be used in the casino or do they have to be applied to your account?

Yes. The OBC acts a credit to your running tab on the ship. So, if you have a $500 OBC and withdraw $100 at the casino, it will be applied against that. (There's likely a small service charge to withdraw.)

There is no service fee to apply OBC to your sign and sail when you play slots. There is no fee when you cash out either.

You are correct. I was referring to signing for chips at the table. I can't recall what the fee is, but there is a small fee for chips.

Just a note for you….the OBC that you have is exactly what it says….. On Board.  You can use these funds toward excursions, but you MUST book the excursion once you get on the ship.  You can’t pre-book online with these funds, so keep in mind, that the excursion you had your heart set on, may be fully booked before embarkation day.

Gift cards have to be applied to your account.  You can then turn around and charge to your account in the casino.

These are excellent questions.  We all pretty much know what the rules were pre-COVID, but also know the rules have changed somewhat post COVID.  So we are interested in actual cruise experience POST COVID.  For example, has anyone POST COVID actually put S&S money on a slot machine and then cashed it out after a spin or two, and then followed the S&S charge to see that it was covered by OBC or a gift card rather than the credit card on file??

Real post-covid experience ... I did this two weeks ago on the Freedom with OBC.  There was really no  need to use a gift card, but I don't expect that there would be any difference.  If you are concerned, don't put a credit card on file, just use your gift cards.  You can always go back and put a cc on file at the kiosk later.

Thanks for the additional info. And as you say, if you were able to do this with OBC, then it should work with gift cards.  And I will try your suggestion to see if they will let me back my account only with gift cards.  That would be awesome if they don't require a credit card behind it all.  But I guess some cruisers don't even have credit cards?

There is absolutely no requirement to back your S&S at all (although it makes no sense not to).  We didn't back ours at all this last trip, because we had so much OBC.  Normally, we only back ours with gift cards.
