dakrewser Posted February 22, 2006 #26 Share Posted February 22, 2006 Um, well, I did say all the amenities the law allows. At sea, the law is whatever the captain says it is. You also haven't answered those who feel that - by your reasoning - there shouldn't be any "kids only" or "teens only" areas - how does that fit into your world? Captain Crunch Posted February 22, 2006 #27 Share Posted February 22, 2006 At sea, the law is whatever the captain says it is. You also haven't answered those who feel that - by your reasoning - there shouldn't be any "kids only" or "teens only" areas - how does that fit into your world? So if the Captain allows the killing of one person by another, there is no other law? There are no international laws that apply? Why is the casino closed in port? Why are the duty free shops closed in port? I am for rational discrimination. Banning of all children, based upon age only is an irrational act. Banning certain activites in or near the pool, has rationality. There are rational reasons for kids only. However I'm sure the Captain will let you have crayons and a coloring book if you ask politely.
dakrewser Posted February 22, 2006 #28 Share Posted February 22, 2006 So if the Captain allows the killing of one person by another, there is no other law? There are no international laws that apply? There are no "international" laws, only bilateral agreements between countries. The captain has the final say aboard ship, but can be subject to maritime law: a) of the port country while in port; or b) of the flag country while on the high seas. Why is the casino closed in port? Why are the duty free shops closed in port? An agreement between the ship and the port. Without it, the port wouldn't be available. I am for rational discrimination. Banning of all children, based upon age only is an irrational act. No, it's an easily enforceable act. Nevertheless, whatever you or I may believe, the rules are what they are. Write to Seattle if you want them changed. But I'll still hold that any change which allows children greater latitude needs to also allow adults the same. That's only rational! :)

dakrewser Posted February 23, 2006 #30 Share Posted February 23, 2006 Dave, I sure have missed you being around here; glad to see you back:) . Hope you stick around for a good long while this time. Thanks Ruth! :) The problem is, when I've got lot's of time to spend here it means I don't have a lot of clients clamoring for my services. And vice versa. Maybe I should think about retiring.... -dave
