WESTEAST Posted December 1, 2021 #1 Share Posted December 1, 2021 Wonder if current Canadian Travel Advisory, "avoid all cruise ship travel outside of Canada" which prevents us from purchasing Trip Cancellation Insurance will be revised to permit Canadians to cruise between US and Canada. Local paper states first cruise ship to return to Canadian waters is Caribbean Princess on April 6th in Victoria. https://www.castanet.net/news/Business/353310/First-cruise-ship-to-return-to-Canadian-waters-April-6-in-Victoria
GrannyGear Posted December 1, 2021 #2 Share Posted December 1, 2021 We we thinking about cruising out of BC from NS the other day. Then realized that it was less expensive to fly to Barcelona than BC. How silly is that!
WESTEAST Posted December 1, 2021 Author #3 Share Posted December 1, 2021 Good point GrannyGear! We are on the west coast so easier choice for us. That said, we will follow our CDN Government advisory for cruising and will wait to see if advisory opens for CDN-US cruising. Unfortunately, with recent Omicron variant, all bets are off as to where is a safe destination.
Fouremco Posted December 1, 2021 #4 Share Posted December 1, 2021 There is no current Travel Advisory for cruise travel, only COVID-19 Travel Advice. Whether travel insurance companies will adjust to the elimination of the Advisory remains to be seen, as the Advice may be viewed by the insurance underwriters as having equal weight to the former Advisory. WESTEAST Posted December 1, 2021 Author #5 Share Posted December 1, 2021 Agree Fouremco, it is a COVID-19 Travel Advice. Both our Ontario based TA and our local BCAA agent informed us that while this Advice (risk level 4) is still on the Travel Advisory site, one can obtain Medical Insurance that covers COVID but, not for Trip Cancellation & Interruption. Time will tell.

Though travel insurance is covering health care for covid related illness, even on cruises, it won’t cover quarantine etc. Cruise companies offer the whole package, with conditions.
