Using Royal App to communicate with family on board the ship.

Has anyone ever used the RCCL App to find family members on the shipped (people who have linked reservations to yours)?  If so how does it work and do you have to purchase an internet package to do this?  I read in a recent Harmony of the Seas review that they had to pay $1.99 a day to do this.

You set it up inside the app - three dots in the upper right. No VOOM package needed.

I just purchased it today. I don't like the fact there's no push notification.

Some may overlook that fact once the feature is free, like RCI CEO promised it eventually to be.

I purchased it so I can communicate with my family but what's the use if someone wants me to being them up a cupcake and I didn't get the message until I come back to the room? lol
