Rare NorbertsNiece Posted February 14, 2022 Author #329 Share Posted February 14, 2022 (edited) Driving to the museum, views from a tour bus. Few people out walking. A couple of dog walkers perhaps. Picture heavy. Snow heavy lol Trying really hard to delete any pic below in this post. Given up. Edited February 14, 2022 by NorbertsNiece
Rare NorbertsNiece Posted February 14, 2022 Author #330 Share Posted February 14, 2022 (edited) The Tirpitz Museum. We watched a video written and narrated by the late Ludovic Kennedy. Rare NorbertsNiece Posted February 14, 2022 Author #331 Share Posted February 14, 2022 (edited) Kåfjord Church. Built in 1837 it is the oldest surviving church of the two which the Germans left standing during the destruction of Alta in WWII. A fire in the 1960's forced some restoration and a new organ. A statue of the Rallar family, more about them and the church here : Link describing the monument involving allied troops during the Tirpitz attack here : Snow was too deep for me to get to it. Rare NorbertsNiece Posted February 14, 2022 Author #332 Share Posted February 14, 2022 (edited) Driving back to Alta. Persistently snowing. We stop briefly before one of three tunnels. The site where the Tirpitz was finally eliminated from the German war effort. The Altabakkene ski jumping arena. Rare NorbertsNiece Posted February 14, 2022 Author #333 Share Posted February 14, 2022 Today's route map I want to give a big 👍 to the staff in the Grill. They work super hard clearing tables, serving drinks, dishing up food, helping guests to their tables, carrying their plates of food if necessary. So good natured and frequently with a sense of humour, they know me by now! The receptionists are always pleasant and greet us by name. Cannot praise the whole team highly enough. Laurence especially cannot do enough.

Rare NorbertsNiece Posted February 15, 2022 Author #339 Share Posted February 15, 2022 Day 26 / 67 Day 11 Norway Good morning. Thanks for following. We'd noticed that the public areas were cold yesterday and I mistakenly thought it due to the gangway being open 🥶 🤦♀️ The wonders of social media put me straight. The Captain did explain the situation yesterday morning during his daily announcement. He explained there was a technical fault which had developed in the air conditioning and the engineers were working hard to resolve it. We were on our excursion. Staircase pic from last night Seems back to normal this morning. Currently at breakfast. Looks like a whiteout outside.

Vivaldi Posted February 15, 2022 #341 Share Posted February 15, 2022 I hope that it was only the public areas which were cold, and that the cabins were still warm! It looks as though the arctic jackets you were all given would have come in handy on board. Would it be possible to include a few more dinner menus? I love reading them, and I'm interested to see how much variety there is in the offerings, and the extent to which the menus reflect the destinations visited - were the Canary Islands cruise menus much different from those on your current cruise, for example. We're greatly enjoying following your blog, and, once again, many thanks for it.

Here's tonight's dinner menu. Pretty much similar to previous cruise. There is always a chicken, steak or fish dish available.

Rare NorbertsNiece Posted February 15, 2022 Author #345 Share Posted February 15, 2022 (edited) The dogs are eager to start their day. They will typically run 25km daily 5 days a week unless they are training for a race when it's longer. The cages are for bitches on heat, those dogs who may be wary of visitors, or those who simply need a break. Rare NorbertsNiece Posted February 15, 2022 Author #346 Share Posted February 15, 2022 The dogs are pretty excited to see us. They know they are going out a run. We are in 3 groups doing different things. Group 1 go sledding. Group 2 get a tour. Group 3 go into the tent for a drink and a talk. I am in group 2 which is perfect. I'm teamed up with Kristina from Saga. The dogs quieten down once the first group sets off. I will share the videos I took once I have good enough WiFi to upload them. 🤦♀️
Rare NorbertsNiece Posted February 15, 2022 Author #347 Share Posted February 15, 2022 (edited) Other mushers arrive. The dogs not pulling tourists will be driven out into the countryside for their 25km exercise runs. The black dog with his handler is called Typhoon. The dogs are housed in pairs. Sometimes they sleep on top of the strawlined kennel. Group 1 sets off. Edited February 15, 2022 by NorbertsNiece 2
