LandHo18 Posted February 9, 2022 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2022 Apologies if this has already been asked and answered. How do you pay for the self-service laundry facilities on Borealis and can you use those gel sachet things (thinking of taking some from home)? Is there a laundry service and how is it? Would be grateful for any help.

Would be grateful for any help. Borealis has, so far, not had a self service launderette, but one was being constructed. I saw a post on social media in the last couple of days saying it was now open, but as the ship does not set sail until Friday, so I cannot comment on the accuracy of that report. As I say, any self service on Borealis will be a new venture, so may work differently to the ones previously in use. I can tell you though that the original ones had machines which dispensed detergent automatically into the wash (you actually pressed a button for that to happen). The machines were operated by tokens which could be purchased from reception for £2 each (one token per wash). There is also a laundry service which I have not used. It is priced per item, but is obviously a lot more expensive than a self service launderette. There is a self service Launderette currently on Bolette, so someone may be able to confirm (or otherwise) that the way it works is as previous - as I have described above. Coravel Posted February 9, 2022 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2022 On the Bolette the charge to use a washing machine including the use of a dryer is £2 but you are given 8 tokens all of which have to be inserted for a single wash. Hope that helps.
tring Posted February 12, 2022 #4 Share Posted February 12, 2022 Borealis left for Norway yesterday and I have seen a comment to say the laundrettte is now up and running.
Coravel Posted February 13, 2022 #5 Share Posted February 13, 2022 It would be interesting to find out if they too have the strange eight coin system of payment. I should not have thought it difficult to replace it with the ones they took off the Black Watch and Boudica or even purchased new coin systems.
LandHo18 Posted February 17, 2022 Author #6 Share Posted February 17, 2022 They have! Lots of Miele machines each running on a token bought from Guest Services for £2. Lots of ironing boards and irons but not a seat anywhere!
Coravel Posted February 17, 2022 #7 Share Posted February 17, 2022 Obviously they are discouraging passengers from loitering in the laundry rooms. I suppose it's a good idea and helps to prevent Covid spreading.
LandHo18 Posted February 26, 2022 Author #8 Share Posted February 26, 2022 Actually a couple of chairs now provided! Operating the dryers is not as straightforward as one might hope but they do work ok. Laundry baskets provided. And there is still the serviced laundry option, at cost. Coravel Posted February 27, 2022 #9 Share Posted February 27, 2022 Many thanks for the update. Strangely, we've met some very interesting people in the laundry rooms even though my role is merely fetch and carry. I can use the machines but I'm banned from ironing after I damaged a garment 46 years ago when my wife was in the maternity ward. To clarify, the maternity ward was not on the ship and it was not a deliberate act of sabotage on my behalf.
Izzywiz Posted March 1, 2022 #10 Share Posted March 1, 2022 Just back from a wonderful Northern Lights cruise on Borealis and a picture paints a thousand words.....The laundrette is working well as already reported and is very shiny and new!! Coravel Posted March 1, 2022 #11 Share Posted March 1, 2022 That's a complete sea of laundry appliances! Perhaps the Borealis only has one laundry room as opposed to the usual two on other ships?
