gkrnjlr Posted February 23, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2006 I read through the archives and saw a lot of people spoke highly about the Holiday Inn Express, but when we called them last night to inquire, we were told that the General Manager typically says NO that we can't leave the car there while on our cruise. She did tell us "sometimes he says yes." Well....I don't want to go with "sometimes." I want to have my plans finalized before I go. I did find one hotel that offers a sleep/park/cruise package for $99 and it's not bad, but now I'm wondering if I can find a different hotel that would still be less expensive after adding in the $12 per day for parking. All that said......does anyone know anything about these hotels? 1. CharismaticWoman Posted February 23, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 23, 2006 The Clarion hotel and the Hilton Garden Inn - Jacksonville Airport offer a hotel room, plus parking and they will take you to the port and pick you up. That way you don't have to pay the $12 a day parking fee.
gkrnjlr Posted February 23, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted February 23, 2006 Is the parking at the hotel secured/safe?
CharismaticWoman Posted February 23, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 23, 2006 Honestly, I haven't asked them, but several people have mentioned this hotel to me as a good option for staying in. I don't think they'd be so quick to mention it if their cars had been broken into. Also, it's an airport location, so I imagine there would be lots of people that leave their cars there? You could try calling them and seeing if they have a secured lot. It just says that the parking is self parking. Good question though :)
CharismaticWoman Posted February 23, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 23, 2006 Found this in a review of the hotel: "The Hilton Garden Inn at the airport is brand new, in a great, safe area, less than a mile from the Intl Airport, less than half a mile to interstates 95 & 295, plenty of places to eat within walking distance, great shuttle service, and is about 10 min from Downtown/Metro Jacksonville. sportsterjohn Posted February 23, 2006 #6 Share Posted February 23, 2006 The Holiday Inn (not express) airport has a cruise / park package. I think it was about $89 which included parking and a shuttle to and from the pier.

The Days Inn on University is old and I don't recommend it. I haven't been to the one at the beach in a long time. As the above poster said, there is a Regular Holiday Inn right near the airport. (Not an "Express") and they have offered a park and cruise package for at least 2-3 years now. I would say call them. And the Hilton Garden in is near this Holiday Inn. These hotels are in a row off airport road. About 12 miles from the port.
gkrnjlr Posted February 23, 2006 Author #8 Share Posted February 23, 2006 Ok, so between the Holiday Inn ($105) and the Clarion (who also has the park/cruise special - for $99)...... Which hotel is better? Safer, etc.? Anyone have personal experience with either? I love these boards. They're always so helpful. Thanks!
Rare Lois R Posted February 23, 2006 #9 Share Posted February 23, 2006 Hi, I have been to both. Not stayed in them but have been inside. They are both very near each other. They are both near the airport and that is about 12 miles from the port. As for safety, both parking lots for each place are outside. I don't know if they have security or not. You are saying 106.00 as opposed to 99.00......that is really the same...with taxes etc. To be honest, if you are a Choice Hotels person, I would say Clarion, if you are a Holiday Inn person I would say them. In other words they are pretty much the same style of hotel and very close to one another. Now, there is a Clarion that is directly on Airport property...not sure if that is the one you are talking about. If so, I would say that would probably be a bit safer. The one closer to the Holiday Inn is just outside the actual airport.
seagulls Posted February 24, 2006 #10 Share Posted February 24, 2006 We are planning on driving down to Ft Lauderdale from Myrtle Beach for our cruise in January. We thought we would break the journey with an overnight in Jacksonville. Do you have a recomendation for a hotel that is NOT off the beaten path. We just want to get up in the morning, get on the highway and complete our trip. We sure don't need anything fancy just clean. Thanks for your time and trouble. Rare Lois R Posted February 24, 2006 #11 Share Posted February 24, 2006 Hi Jean:) Be glad to help you. I would suggest either J Turner Butler Blvd or Baymeadows Road. They are both exits directly off of I-95 and both have quite a few hotel choices. Do you have a preference of hotel/motel chains?
seagulls Posted February 24, 2006 #12 Share Posted February 24, 2006 Thanks for the suggestions Lois. No we do not have any hotel chain preference. All we need is a clean hotel that doesn't take us far off 1-95. I will take a look and see what is on the map in that area.
