Things to do in Cabo???

Stopping in Cabo in late March with family (3 kids: 5/8/10).  Not there for very long and don't want to spend an arm & a leg on expensive excursions (Dolphin Experience)!  Was curious to see if there is anything close by (walking distance) that would be interesting/fun to do with the family that wouldn't break the bank.  Thanks!

Think of Cabo as really southern Southern California.  It is mostly a party port for 20-something Americans.  The Giggling Marlin and Cabo Wabo are popular bars, which are a little old for your five year old!

 

I would recommend a "glass-bottom" boat ride out to the Arch (see Lovers' Beach, the stinking Sea Lion Rock, Land's End on the way), and maybe get dropped off at Medano Beach on the way back to the dock. 

 

The drop-off at Medano Beach might not be good for your little ones -- too much risk of rough surf  --  the boats do a drop-off in the water, not onto the dry beach.  So take the boat back to the dock and then grab a taxi to the beach, if that is on your list.

We’ve been searching for 5yo friendly activities for April.  There aren’t a lot of options.  Beach time is probably the best low cost option.  Glass bottom boat tour isn’t too expensive, but it’s short, and then you have to fill in the rest of the time.   Day passes are expensive in Cabo too.

 

We’re doing the Dolphin Experience and probably the glass bottom boat.  And then there are tons of great restaurants in walking distance.

Horseback riding is offered by NCL and 3rd parties.

We've had a good time doing horseback riding and ATVs, booking through 3rd party vendors. Whale watching is also really great with the kids if they are still in season! There are quite a few affordable options (our favorite is La Princesa catamaran) that are child friendly!

We just got back.  I highly recommend you walk off the ship, hire a local glass bottom boat.  We paid $12 pp. They will take you to see sealions, birds, beaches, etc in the water.  You'll likely see whales too.  Then get dropped off on the beach.  Grab a drink and snack, enjoy the beach, etc then your boat will pick you back up and return you for no extra fee.

What time of the year did you do the glass bottom boat tour to see whales?

The whales generally arrive in numbers in December and are around until sometime in April. I've done whale watching in late April and got nothing but a nice day out on the water in a small boat. But March - they should still be around. In February - it is awesome.

Hope you have a great time. We actually leave tomorrow (Saturday morning) for our annual week (and sometimes two) at our timeshare, Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach in Cabo. Been going there every year since 2002. Even in 2020 (late Oct) and 2021 (late Oct - for 2 weeks). Was there during the bird flu scare (it was never in Cabo), and also arrived about 5 days after they managed to reopen the airport the year Hurricane Odile struck the Los Cabos area. Our timeshare thankfully had minimal damage.

 

Also sailing on Carnival Panorama right after Thanksgiving so we'll be back there again (but for a short visit). Enough time for my wife to get a massage at her favorite place and a fantastic lunch afterwards at Gardenias Tacos (our favorite place in Cabo for fish tacos).

Sitting by the pool at our timeshare Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach in Cabo right now. Alas, we leave for home tomorrow, but it's been another great week. 20th straight year spending at least 1 week in Cabo. Needless to say we get our money's worth out of our timeshare (but it's not for everyone). Next year we are already planning on a 2 week stay (late Oct-early-Nov). My wife and 2 friends got their massages yesterday and immediately wished they had done it earlier in the week so a repeat massage could have been done later in the week.

 

So the Spa is called Eden`s Spa. Current pricing is $60 for 90 min. massage. $10 more for deep tissue or sports massage. By comparison - its $130 for a half hour massage at our resort. I'll post pictures of their brochure in a couple days and give more details. Tedious to type on a tablet.

Are glass bottom boats as good as the specific whale watching tours? It's our first time there and we would really love to see the whales. What are the odds/changes to see them? Will be there feb 7 on Norwegian Joy.

The "glass bottom boats" don't go looking for whales.  If the captain spots one, he will point it out, but he will not go far out of his way to give you the best view and to hang around the whale.  

 

The captain of the whale-watching tour boat will use his radio to talk to other boats as to the best location, and he will go to those spots -- that is his job!

 

You will have lots of whale-watching boats to choose from.  Zodiacs, speed boats, larger boats.  Enjoy!
