suggestions for Ghent

We will be in Zeebruge and we are interested in going to Ghent, as we have been to Brugges and want to see more of the country!   Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas of an excursion from the port area.   There is one with the cruiseline, but hoping for a smaller group if possible.    Or, does any one have experience in going there on your own via train or taxi?

I have not travelled there from Zeebrugge but is is a lovely city which is easy to stroll around independently, perhaps taking in a short canal boat ride.  As the shuttle buses go to the station, where you can catch trains to Bruges, I would think it would be equally easy to catch one to Ghent, though will be a bit further and probably less frequent trans.  

 

I would search for train details online, or perhaps ask on the appropriate Trip Advisor forum.
