Pompeii & Mt. Vesuvius

Greetings- I am booked on a Celebrity cruise for September and I am trying to find / figure out the best tour that will visit Pompeii and Mr. Vesuvius.  I have read through the Celebrity excursions but I don't see anything that specifically says "Mt. V".  Has anyone participated on a visit to the rim? Was it on a cruise or a private tour?  Any information is much appreciated!

I am going in May and am looking for the exact same thing (from Naples). I’m interested in the hike to the crater. I’ve done a little research online and see that there are DIY options but since we are only in port for a day we don’t want to take too much time waiting for trains and buses. A tour with a pick up from the pier would be ideal. Hope there will be others who have done this and can recommend!

There used to be a shuttle bus offered by the company that does the City Sightseeing tours in Naples that went from the port to Vesuvio and back.  It was suspended, like everything else, during Covid and has yet to come back.  Hopefully once the cruise traffic picks up again they will restart this service.  It was about 15 euro round trip, as I recall.

 

In the meantime you might try posting on the roll call for your sailing to see if you can find someone else to share the cost of a car service or taxi.  Note that as of right now advance ticket purchase for the crater climb (one mile) are required and they are for a specific time.  That too may change as restrictions are relaxed.
