AdamsND04 Posted May 15, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 15, 2004 With the Voyager sailing out of NY/NJ this year and coming years what will the effect be on Carnival..seeing that RCCL plans on having 6 ships dock at Cape Liberty? I know the plans are in the works for a terminal in Brooklyn. MrPete Posted May 15, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 15, 2004 Part of the thrill of sailing out of NY is sailing past Manhattan. Bayonne is too far south, and any RCI ships sailing out of there will not sail past Manhattan. I think you are even below the Statue of Liberty. __ /7__/7__/7____ \:::::::::::::::::::/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Miracle 7/10/04 NY to Bahamas and Port Canaveral Disney Wonder 3/04/04 Pride 7/16/03 Bermuda Legend 10/17/02 CTN Disney Wonder 9/15/02 Destiny 4/29/01 Southern Caribbean Victory 9/14/00 Canadian Maritimes Triumph 9/99 Canadian Maritimes Jubilee 4/98 Trans Pacific/Hawaii Imagination 4/97 Western Caribbean Imagination 4/96 Western Caribbean Fascination 4/95 Southern Caribbean Ecstasy 4/18/93 Eastern Caribbean Fantasy 9/25/90 Bahamas Jubilee 5/13/90 Mexican Riviera NCL Seaward 1/15/89 Western Caribbean Jubilee 4/24/88 Eastern Caribbean HONEYMOON

CruiseFever Posted May 15, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 15, 2004 You mean like will they steal all the cruise passengers and Carnival will be running ghost ships? I really doubt it. If there's any city with enough population to support multiple cruise lines it's New York City for sure. There are a lot of lines sailing out of the Port of Miami too and they seem to be doing just fine Is that what you mean? AdamsND04 Posted May 15, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted May 15, 2004 I mean with the Size of the Ship, I know Carnival doens't have a Voyager Size ship out of New York, we went on the Legend Last year and possibly were going to go on it again this year eith that or the miracle and then we heard the Voyager was coming so we went for the Voyager based on the ship alone. Your right that you won't be sailing past Manhatten but from what I've heard is that the new terminal is that it is 10 times easier than the pier in manhatten. Parking is half the price per day and alot less congestion. This is what i've heard from people who have returned from Empress of the Seas cruises. Laurab23 Posted May 15, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 15, 2004 I'm thinking the more ships that leave out of NYC the better. Maybe then the price will go down. If I didn't hate to fly I'd leave from Miami and save a bundle of money. Even with airfare right now it would be cheaper to leave out of Miami than NYC. More ships, lower prices. peteinsonj Posted May 15, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 15, 2004 NYC is an expensive port to sail out of. Both Carnival and RCI (don't know about NCL) are pretty expensive compared to Florida. Agreed -- the more ships out of NYC -- then there will be some price pressure, and prices will drop -- at least we can hope so! Pete
Cruising89143 Posted May 15, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 15, 2004 I just read that RCI is going to use the Voyager next year for Bermuda on the five night cruise along with the Caribbean for the nine night cruise. This should do very well. ILov2cruise Posted May 15, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 15, 2004 Would rather sail out of NYC than NJ. Nothing better than sailing past Lady Liberty and under the Verrazano Bridge. Nothing to see sailing out of NJ.

melissa Posted May 15, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 15, 2004 FYI- I was booked on the voyager but decided i might want to do the legend instead. We booked the legend with better cabins( we have 2) for $3000 less for the cruise- yes the legend is 8 nites and the voyager was 9 but $3000 is too much for one xtra nite. melissa Nordic Empress 1996 Majesty of the Seas 1998 CarnivalTriumph 1999 Grand Princess 2000 Sovereign of the Seas 2000 Explorer of the Seas 2001 Disney Wonder 2001 Galaxy 2002 Imagination 2003 Carnival Pride 2003 Carnival Miracle 2004 Carnival Victory 2004 Carnival Legend 2004
seaventurer Posted May 15, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 15, 2004 Carnival's average occupancy rate is at or above 100% and will continue to be so. They have nothing to worry about -
