Precruise excusion

We are sailing 18 April on American Queen Nola to Memphis. We are staying at the Royal Sonesta before the cruise from 15-18 April. We have the precruise excursion booked but our documents talk about our luggage being left in the hotel room - I assume that applies to the Hilton. Just wondering what will happen - hopefully they will tell us when we check in the day before. Any thoughts? Has anyone done this before? 
Also, assume we need a small bag for the last night on board as our big bags will be taken away in the evening. Is this correct?

very excited now as this is the 3rd attempt at this trip - assuming we pass the Covid tests in the UK first and in New Orleans!

Usually the luggage is taken away at 8:00am the day of the cruise.  Yes to your question about the last night.
