We are scheduled to do the Galapagos cruise next month.Does anyone know which airline flies you to Baltra from Quito and what the baggage limits are for checked in luggage and carry on luggage? We are continuing on to Machu Picchu  and aren't sure what else we would need for that leg of the trip.

You might want to look at Celebrity's FAQ for Galapagos (https://www.celebritycruises.com/faqs/all-faqs#galapagos). One relevant question is this:

Are There Any Luggage Restrictions?

The air carriers flying between Quito and Baltra typically limit the amount of luggage per guest to one checked piece (not to exceed 44 lbs.) and a small carry-on bag (not to exceed 15 lbs.). Guests may bring a reasonable amount of clothing and personal effects on board the vessels. However, for guests’ comfort and convenience, it is recommended that they limit the number of items they take

However, I received other documents from Celebrity where the carry-on limit was a little higher. I have seen some claim their carry-on was weighed but our were not.

There is a long standing Galapagos thread at

This thread has been going for many years and most questions have been asked and answered multiple times. We have been to the Galapagos twice with Celebrity and found this thread extremely useful.

Also, as for luggage unless it has changed the issue with luggage is not so much the flight but the trip to the ship. When we went, the Xpedition did not dock but everyone and their luggage was transported on panga's from the dock to the ship. Also our cruises were very informal so most people wore shorts and t-shirts all day, even to dinner.

Are you flying on the Celebrity charter? Be very, very cautious of DIY flights. The schedules vary wildly, and can be changed without much notice.

You will not really need anything different for the MP leg. We left an entire suitcase in Lima at the hotel to pick up on return.

I would agree with sippican about taking the Celebrity charter. The island of Baltra where the airport is located has no other facilities beyond the airport and the cruise dock. So it is pretty much impossible to fly in the day before and meet your cruise the next day. Also when the charter arrives you and your luggage are bussed to the dock and board pangas for the trip to the ship. If  you are no there when the pangas depart I am not sure how you get to your ship.

Also, the hotel in Quito which was included in the Celebrity 10 day package was very willing to let you store your extra luggage while you were in the Galapagos.

Just to point out, the OP mentioned continuing on to MP. If they are doing the Celebrity extension, they will not be returning to the hotel in Quito, they will be flying on to Lima.

We are going at the  end of April on Xpedition. Checked luggage must wbe under 44 pounds.   It is hard to find much information on post Covid Celebrity Galapsgos cruises. There is an active FB page with recent Celebrity Galapagos cruisers who offer answers and advice.

I would highly recommend you post on the Galapagos thread at:

We have been on Celebrity Xpedition twice and never had an issue with the weight of our luggage even though the notice has been there for years. The blog linked above has several recommended packing lists from people who have been on the Xpedition.

Note that the night before your flight to the Galapagos you must leave your luggage in the lobby where it is inspected by the Ecuadorian government and taken separately to the airport. You will need to have an overnight bag for anything you need in the morning before your flight to the Galapagos.
