Vista Class Bow

Does anyone know if passengers are allowed on the open bow area of the Vista Class Ships? On the Zaandam, we were able to go up some steps from the promenade deck and walk around the open area at the bow. Just curious.

There's a sign at the "gate" up there that says crew only. I've not seen pax up there, but seems like someone mentioned that a crew member took them out there once. General answer to your question is "no."

The bow area on the promenade deck is normally closed due to the wind. The only time I've seen it open to pax is when we were in the Panama Canal, and the ship was moving slowly, so the wind wasn't a problem.

 

If you go to the entrance to the gym (forward, Lido deck) and bear to starboard, there is a corridor that takes you to a small forward deck in front of the gym just above the wheelhouse. This is normally open, but very windy, so it's not a great place to be.

I loved being out on the bow on the Zaandam as we left our port and headed out to sea. It wasn't easy to get to, and we felt as if we were in a "crew-only" area, but I did confirm that it was open to passengers.

It depends on what port you are in. While the ship is at sea it is closed off due to wind. However, on the Oosterdam it was open during out visit to Hubbard Glacier. I have also had it open during a Westerdam call at Half Moon Cay.

We went out on the bow with our cabin steward as the ship left port. He escorted us inside as the ship picked up speed as it quickly became too windy and very unpleasant. When we came in, he locked the door.
