Anyone been on Majesty this year 2006?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has been on the Majesty recently - like January or February of this year? Because they are retiring this ship within 2 years (I think) I was wondering if the service or the cleanliness has gone downhill at all or maybe even improved? The ratings for this ship run from wonderful to terrible. It's really hard to get a handle on it. I haven't seen many NEW REVIEWS.

THANKS.

DH and I went on the Dec 27-Jan7 Majesty out of Charleston.

Our first cruise so nothing to compare to but let me just say

Yipeeeeeeee, we are so glad the Majesty was our first experience.

Staff was amazing. Cabin was great, cabin stewards were awesome.

I posted a TR here somewhere. I think its in the NCL area.

Ship does seem to be a tad older but I didnt care, it was so much fun I didnt mind not having glass elevators and mega shopping on board.

Hey and the casino was the best fun of all.

We were on the Majesty Jan. 14 thru 21 and loved it. It was our first cruise but the ship looked great to me. We were lucky and had a suite and it was wonderful. A little more room to move around in. The food was great sometimes and others it was ok. The staff was first rate. I don't think they are letting her get run down just because they are going to retire her. There was always someone cleaning or painting something.

Dining rooms were very pretty and the casino was small but never crowded. I would go again tomorrow if I could,

I thought that perhaps the Majesty was going to be traded out to NCL's parent company to run cruises in the Far East. That certainly wouldn't be any reason to run the ship down. Most of the bad reviews of the Majesty I've read came from people who were either poorly informed prior to sailing on her or were stuck on the bigger is better bandwagon.

Glad to see that you and DH had a great time on the Majesty. I am taking my 1st cruise, 29 of us all family, out of Charleston in April 2006 and cannot wait. I'm ssure like you we will have a wonderful time.

Are there any absolute "must do" on the ship or at port? Input would be greatly appectiated as you were a 1st timer as well.

Thanks:)

Out of all my cruises (see the list below my name). She is my favorite ship, I don't know why, she is definately smaller, but she is beautiful, and plenty big enough. The food, service, and entertainment is excellent. She also has the smallest cabins I've ever been in. But I did not mind. The cabin was nice and had everything I needed. One cruise I had an inside, the other a window. Same cabin layout for both. I always get the cheapest cabin! I go with the guarentee room.

My July 2005 trip was really cheap . . . it was FREE, I won it on the radio!! lol.

The only thing I personally don't like that much is the Freestyle dining. Other people love it, but I prefer the assigned time, table & dining staff. I don't like seeing the lines outside the dining room waiting to sit, like when you are out to dinner around home. Some people get really grumpy. But we just went with the flow, and never had a problem. The food and service was excellent in both main dining rooms. I also ate in the specialty Italian resturant (I forget the name). I never ate in the French resturant, but it looked nice.

All the bars and rooms are beautiful. They NEVER felt crowded. Sometimes it is a little hard to get a seat up on deck, as the deck is small and people do a lot of chair saving. But I always found one. A couple of times I pulled a regular chair up to the pool deck and put my feet up on the deck & read a book! This worked great.

Hot tubs are always crowded (on all ships . lol.) good luck getting in one. Personally, I have no desire to use them. There are two pools and those aren't that crowded people come and go.

Hope this helps!:)

I agree that the Majesty Pool/Hot tub area was a little constricted as far as space goes. But it didn't bother me enough to ruin or even upset me.

We really enjoyed the Freestyle concept. DH and I NEVER wanted to be pinned down to a dining time, nor table mates.

I don't think DH will ever want to go on a cruise without a Freestyle dining concept. You know you get busy doing stuff sometimes...... :)

Is there enough for teens to do on the Majesty? I don't see a basketball area or teen club (for two 17yr olds who like the nightlife...lol):)
IMO - the answer is an overwhelming no. This is too bad. I take my kids now 18 dd & 20 ds on cruises, and my son always loves basketball, but there is none on this cruise. I have been on this cruise twice, all of the teens are soooooo bored. There is just not enough for them to do, unfortunately. I have commented to my husband that I was glad the kids where not with us on those two cruises. There are a lot of teens, however, especially in the summer, so they do find each other and have fun. A lot of older passengers do moan & groan about the teens though.

My daughter probably would be ok, because she likes all of the adult shows and dinner and such, but my son would be board. Now they are old enough for the clubs & casinos, so it would be different, but if your sons are around 17, they would be too young.

I was thinking of taking DD on the Majesty when she turns 18. She would probably love the shows but I am concerned that the shows would be the ONLY thing she would enjoy. Can an 18 year old gamble in the casino on the Majesty?

Since it is a smaller ship she would be able to navigate it probably pretty well as we would most likely rent a scooter for her ( hard time walking long distances).

I might have to consider a larger NCL ship for her trip tho cause she keeps seeing those RCL commercials on TV and goes Oooohhhhhhhhh lets go on that ship!!

I however am now a confirmed NCL lover.

The disco allows Teens until 11 pm. I took my 18 yr old on a 5 day cruise out of Jacksonville, FL on the Carnival Celebration. This is an older and smaller ship also. Even though I liked the Majesty much better, I do think Carnival is much better for teens. So many games and sports, always something going on for them. Plus the teen disco was hopping every night.

Thanks for all the good advice. A cruise without basketball and teen disco would be a total bore for them. I have looked at the Celebration also and I may take a closer look if there is more for teens to doon board. I will be taking my two grandsons age 17 and 13 and one of their friends who is also 17. As long as they can find things to occupy them they all are low maintenance. I don't want to spend a week with 3 boys whining........:)

Emdea, they will have so much fun on the Celebration. I took my son since my husband couldn't go. I asked him to at least keep me a little company, or join me for dinner, but I think he only had dinner with me twice. The first night and formal night (because I made him that night). He was so busy having fun with all his new friends, that he did not have time. On the way home he thanked me for taking him, and told me that it was the vacation of a life time! We bought the travel log video because he was on it so many times, dancing, swimming, playing games. They did a "fear factor" game in the pool, limbo contest, etc.

I was on Majesty February 11th thru 18th and they are refinishing the main decking and some floor in the buffet area. They were painting by the elevator. So certainly not letting it run down

It was extremely clean and well kept.

I have one Royal Carribean cruise to compare to but this ship was a lot cleaner and less stains on furniture and nicer sheets, bedspreads.

The one thing I can not complain about is the condition of the ship

This is for Nickymjw1- thanks for info re CVL Celebration- did they have a basketball area and a teen club/disco? We keep getting mixed reports from people who have been on CVL as to what is available for older teens.

All they want from a cruise is to play ball all day and dance all night....LOL They do like the pool competitions. I bet the fear factor was a hoot.:)

Emdia43-

I was on Celebration last fall. They do have basketball, and they have hours in the early evenings when the disco is for teens only. Lots of pool-side activities as well. Plus the waterslide!!

Good ship for teens. And a fantastic crew, friendliest I've ever encountered.

Hi Folks,

We are considering taking the Majesty out of Boston on 9/3 or 9/10 of 2006. We have been on the Dawn 3 times. We are looking at this ship because during these dates they will be having a Irish festival. I have called NCL in Miami and the women said they will probably have Green Beer. This did not answer my question. Would anyone out there know what type of entertainment they might have, what bands, cultural, history, dance classes etc.. I will not travel to Boston for Green Beer.

Sincerely,

Rich & Margaret-Mary
