demmy10 Posted May 15, 2022 #1 Share Posted May 15, 2022 Hi, looking for some advise. Will be travelling from Treviso airport to Venice (think easiest way is bus to Tronchetto). Cruise leaving from Trieste. We have 2 nights pre cruise and one night post cruise. Our thoughts are stay one night in Venice and travelling to Trieste by train, then stay one night in Trieste before cruise. On return travel back to Venice for overnight before flight next afternoon. Does anyone have any tips or advise and also hotel recommendations. Initially thinking 1st night either near train station or getting people mover to Piazzale Roma, to limit having to drag suitcases around. We have never been to Venice before so any help appreciated. Thanks
mapleleaves Posted May 15, 2022 #2 Share Posted May 15, 2022 If the priority is to limit handling suitcases, you might want to consider staying in Mesre and taking the ATVO Airport Express Bus from Treviso. 12E for the 50 minute ride. The ATVO buses are like a big greyhound bus, comfortable, A/C and luggage goes in the hold beneath . The bus will drop you off next to the train station in Mestre where there are several hotels. Mestre is the last stop on the mainland before crossing the bridge into Venice. This makes it more affordable than Venice, but you can easily reach Venice by bus or train in less than 10 minutes and a few E. And when you're ready to head to Trieste you can take the train from Mestre. ATVO Treviso schedule: aeroporto_di_treviso_(tv-ve)_dal_27.03_al_8.06.20223657.pdf (atvo.it) Mestre hotels: Hotels near Venezia Mestre Railroad Station | Venice for Visitors (europeforvisitors.com) If you'd rather stay in Venice, the ATVO bus continues on to Piazzale Roma in Venice after it leaves Mestre. There are several hotels within a 5 minute walk of the PRoma. (If you need an elevator be sure to ask ). The Grand Canal is only 2-3 blocks from PRoma so easy access to start your sightseeing. You pay for the convenience tho. Port of Venice Hotels - Stazione Marittima and Piazzale Roma | Venice for Visitors (europeforvisitors.com) If you stay in Venice, you can catch the train to Trieste at the S Lucia station but it's on the other side of the canal so youlll need to schlepp you suitcases over a large bridge. Or you could take the bus or back to Mestre. demmy10 Posted May 20, 2022 Author #4 Share Posted May 20, 2022 Thank you for your replies. Apologies for late response, but I’ve had covid (better now than when cruise due). Think would prefer to stay in Venice. Can anyone advise the easiest way to get from Piazzale Roma to the train station, with luggage.
mapleleaves Posted May 20, 2022 #5 Share Posted May 20, 2022 The bridge from PRoma to the train station is a biggie if you can't manage your luggage easily. Bridge photo: Top 11 Tourist Mistakes in Venice, Italy | Venice for Visitors (europeforvisitors.com) It might be easier to take a cab or the bus to Mestre to catch the train.. The Venice train will stop there anyway.
