Suggestions for transfer from Messina Port to Taormina?

We'll be in Messina Port for one day & looking for round trip transfer from the port to Taormina?  The ship offers a transfer, but we want more time than what they're offering.  Suggestions?  Thank you.

One option is to walk a half mile to Messina Centrale train station, where you can get the Interbus direct to Taormina.  The trip takes 50 minutes and leaves you up on the hill, in town.

 

The train is also an option but the nearest station is down on the waterfront so you'd need to take the bus up, in total the train plus bus trip takes an hour and fifteen minutes.

 

So, for example, the 9:00 bus gets to Taormina at 9:50.

The 9:15 train + bus options gets to Taormina at 10:28.
