AMEX reward points used to bid on flight upgrades??

Has anyone had any luck using your AMEX reward points to bid on a business class flight?    I just received an email from them saying  Fiji  air is a partner with them and offered me the perk of bidding my points for better seats.       I did call and all I found out is that you can only bid once.    The business class flight cost was $14,000 pp.    I did a paid upgrade for better seats and paid around $1,800 pp. .

I have lots of points and really would like the upgrade.

 

Anyone  have any experience with this?     Thanks so much for any help.
