We do, we fly out of a United hub, will pick a non refundable $200 flight over a refundable $300 flight and take our chances.

Statistically speaking you're a lot more likely to have saved $100 than to lose $200. Over time, multiple vacations, even if I lose out the cost of one flight I will have saved money in the long run, I feel.

I live in a metro area rarely subject to weather delays, so I have better odds of being able to keep my flight or of any changes not having a great impact on my vacation.
