La Romana 1130-1700

On the Carnival Horizon July 23rd-31, we have a short stay in La Romana.  Any suggestions?  I see day passes are available to resorts but would only be there a couple of hours after taxi rides and ensuring back on the ship in time.  We dislike staying on the ship during port days as we have 3 Sea Days already on this itinerary.   Thanks in advance!

Just bumping this one up. We also will be heading to La Romana but with Royal. Not much information on this port. It must be a relatively new stop. Our planner only has monkeys, dolphins and a river cruise listed. Can't tell what else there is to do. I have tried YouTube and have struck out.

I believe there is a shuttle that takes you to the town ($8). There is cuca beach about 30 minutes away.  Search YouTube for free beach La Romana.

I am looking at a cruise on Royal Caribbean with a stop here from 1130AM to 6PM. What is the closest free public beach from the cruise port and how long does it take to get there? Is there a shuttle from the cruise terminal that would take you there? From what I saw online it appears the beaches are 30 mins away.
