helicopter glacier tours - Alaska

Recommended Posts

We are booking a helicopter tour while in Juneau. Times offered are 8:15 am or 10:45 or 11:45 a.m. I would prefer 8:15 schedule wise to be free to do lots of other things in pm without breaking up the day. However, I am concerned as to if it is usually foggy in am in Alaska. Should we book for later am?? Has anyone done a helicopter tour early am and had clear weather for viewing? What has been your experience - what would you do?

We have done it twice, but only in the afternoon and it was beautiful both times. I think you're right, though. It tends to be foggier in the mornng. If you go to the port of call board for Alaska you will get all kinds of expert advice. The Alaskan cruise is so special. You will love it!

We did the same tour at 10:45 and the weather was fantastic, we were walking on the ice in T-shirts, not sure about the early flight. You will enjoy the Alaskan cruise, we are planning to go back next year.

What month were you there? The helicopter company suggested we book for 815 so that if weather is bad then - we could rebook later in day. He said they often do that - if we book in pm and weather bad NO alternative - thought would post this advice for others who are interested.

June 20, 2004 Serenade of the Seas, the locals told us they were having a heat wave, the ship was selling winter gloves, hot choc. etc. They would have made more money selling t-shirts and sun screen! We only had one day of clouds and drizzle:)

we had an early glacier trip last June - weather was perfect. Everyone was really bundled up and it was quite warm on the glacier.

Absolutely breath-taking trip. Ours was Temsco helicopters. The only draw-back that I saw w3as there were six people in the helicopter plus the pilot. Two that sat up front with the pilot had the best view as far as taking video etc although ours turned out good and we bought the video from Temsco too.
