Ontariotrekker Posted August 6, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 6, 2022 We have a turnaround day in Southampton and I'd like to get off of the ship to meet a friend in town. How tricky is this to do? Is it a long way to the port gates? I'm cruising Princess. Thanks Shar
Rare John Bull Posted August 7, 2022 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2022 (edited) Princess mainly use either Ocean Cruise Terminal or Mayflower Cruise Terminal. Check the port itinerary for the ship & date https://www.southamptonvts.co.uk/Live_Information/Shipping_Movements_and_Cruise_Ship_Schedule/Cruise_Ship_Schedule/ Ocean is a 5-minute walk to Dock Gates 4 or 5 Turn left outside the gate & it's another 2 mins to a Starbuck's on Town Quay, or old-town Southampton just beyond. Mayflower is a little more difficult. A 15-minute walk to Dock Gate 10, then another 5 to a McDonalds but little else there and a further 10 mins thro a retail park to West Quay Shopping Mall. So perhaps worth a short taxi hop (taxi rank at the cruise terminal) If your friend is travelling by car they can access the concourse for either terminal by sweetly telling the gate security that they're picking you up at the end of your cruise. Be sure to swap phone numbers with your friend. JB 🙂 Edited August 7, 2022 by John Bull
TheOldBear Posted August 7, 2022 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2022 Some cruise lines _may_ have a shuttle bus. Cunard was [2019] running theirs from the terminal to near 'Bargate' and the West Quay shopping center. Mrs Bear was a bit mobility challenged [new knee] so we also used the white radio cabs & Uber for some short trips.
