Another idea on alcohol

Recommended Posts

i.e., carryon irons not allowed (but they aren't illegal).

Has nothing to do with being legal or illegal. Irons are considered an electrical/fire hazard.

You're nit-picking.;)

I know what the policies are re: irons. The OP was the one who used the term "illegal" in reference to alcohol being smuggled on board.

That's what I was commenting on: items that must be smuggled aboard due to Ship Policies. Asking if alcohol was illegal was rhetorical. It is a legal item that some choose to sneak on board. Same thing with irons. Where does it stop?

I am certain there are other items that folks bring with them that might be considered a no-no.

My point being, it is not illegal. Bringing stuff on board is a personal decision and I don't have the time or energy to worry about what other people like to pack....unless it is illegal. THEN I care! :p

If I may ask a question? Since I am frugal! We are going on the Star Princess 3/19. Where can I find this "in port" liquor store at Port Everglades. We are flying in and I dont wish to travel with beer in my suitcase. Thanks in advance.

In as far as the cruise line losing money because I've decided to bring my own alcohol aboard, and that, by some, is considered wrong, what I won't be spending on purchased drinks will very likely support another area of the cruise, such as the casino or the spa.

So, they will, by the end of the cruise, have received my entire budgeted and planned amount I had initially intended to spend.

We had a bottle of WINE confiscated at the Port of Galveston! We were planning on paying the corkage fee for our own favorite vintage, but the security didn't understand & we gave up. The next time, I found out that with RCI, they wanted you to get pre-approval & get a letter to bring it on! That was about 3-4 years ago & the port was new.

My DH, DS, and I are going on our first cruise this Sunday. I have been lurking on these boards for over a month and have learned sooooo much. The whole smuggling alcohol on board has been of interest as I really don't want our "bar" tab to exceed the price of the cruise:o . We are cruising on the Costa Med and on their website it says alcohol is not allowed to be brought on board. However, when I read the Passage Ticket Contract, the actual legal doc that outlines the do's and don'ts in legalize, there is absolutely no mention of bring alcohol on board. As it states, this contract is the final say when there is a conflict between it and the brochures.....so I don't feel like I am doing anything "illegal" by bringing my wine aboard in relation to the cruiseline. The next question: Is it legal with the port authorities to bring alcohol......

Jim...Many ports of embarkation have shops and liquor stores. Go to the Port Canaveral board and ask that question there.

When I went on the carnival (the Triumph) 2 years ago we brought on rum and vodka (I think) with no problem hidden in the middle of our suitcases.

Then at Cozumel I purchased a few of the mini bottles of rums and vodkas and brought them back on board with me, no problem. They're small, easy to hide, and just about the right amount (for me) to make drinks with.

That's a great idea!

We cruised Costa twice, once in the Caribbean and once in Europe. At nearly every port we brought on some sort of alcohol. In Barcelona alone, my DH and I brought on 18 one liter cans of Spanish beer and a couple bottles of wine. We NEVER had a second look by the security when we boarded the ship.

we like a bloody mary, not everyday, but maybe once or twice a week when on vacation. The idea of the mouthwash sounds awful....but I have a few tylenol bottles that are empty....they are white not see through would it show if it contained fluid instead of pills? probably one or two of these would be all the vodka we need for the week. What is your opinion?

Limpygirl...Don't even bother. If it is VO you want then pack a small pint of it in your carry-on and walk right on the ship with it. Though it is put through the scanner, I doubt very higly that they would consider confiscating it. If this make you leary then place a pint of VO in your checked luggage. I'm 99.99% sure it will make it to your cabin. (OR, just place a small pint in your pocket or cargo shorts. One thing is for sure...I have never been frisked boarding a ship and I've been on 14 cruises with 4 different lines.

Speaking of St.Thomas, Dominica, Barbados, and Aruba)-NOBODY CARED!!!- in Barbados & Dominica i walked right on the ship carring a bottle of rum, not even in a bag, no one said a word, when i was done at the xray machine, i was expecting to see a table to check the liquor in at, no tables in sight so i hoped in the elevator and off to my room i went, talking to others on the ship, they all said the same thing, no table nothing. So our first sea day i deside to buy a bottle of mango Cruzin rum from the ships store, they gave it to right there and again i took it to my room. This has never happened before, the ships store always takes it from me unless it is the last night.
