oregand Posted August 29, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2022 We are looking to book our first cruise out of Southampton next year. There seems to be a lot of information on services from Heathrow but very little on Gatwick. Could anyone advise on getting from Gatwick to Southampton? Many Thanks
Globaliser Posted August 29, 2022 #2 Share Posted August 29, 2022 In general: a direct train from Gatwick Airport to Southampton Central, operated by Southern Railway, once an hour during the day, takes just under two hours, does not run on Sundays. Bob++ Posted August 29, 2022 #3 Share Posted August 29, 2022 (edited) Or a private-hire car for around £160.00 at today's prices Edited August 29, 2022 by Bob++
John Bull Posted August 29, 2022 #4 Share Posted August 29, 2022 As per Globaliser's post direct hourly train from Gatwick Airport (station is inside the South Terminal, free inter-terminal transport from North Terminal) to Southampton Central station. Taxi from station forecourt to any cruise terminal will cost £10 or less. But no direct trains on sundays - travel by train on sundays involves at least two train changes, so on a sunday consider taking the National Express bus which runs seven days a week, but goes via a change at Heathrow bus station, takes about 4 hrs in total, and frequency only about every two hours - so very much a second choice monday to saturday.. Again, taxi from Southampton coach station to any cruise terminal £10 or less. https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ https://www.nationalexpress.com/en Or pre-booked private transfer about £150 to £160 Have you considered flying Dublin to Southampton? Or even to Bournemouth? JB 🙂

We’re flying in from Toronto and only direct flight is with Air Transat to LGH. Is the train east to get to ?

After you have cleared immigration and customs and exited to the public area, you take the inter-terminal shuttle train from the North Terminal to the South Terminal, to which the railway station is attached. The Nat Express bus calls at both terminals. Having to go from LGW to LHR in order to take a bus to Southampton is time-consuming, although - depending on your circumstances - changing your arrival day in order to take the train might be a bit extreme. And pre-pandemic the bus from LGW used to be direct - that route might be reinstated by the time your cruise comes along. JB 🙂

As another alternative, other London airports are available (as they say). But almost anything would beat having to waste the best part of a day sitting on National Express coaches on an indirect and time-consuming routing.
