Saudi marine transit visa to visit Jeddah

I have called Silversea twice and studied blogs on TripAdvisor and CruiseCritic to find out about how to get a marine transit visa for cruise stop in Jeddah. Conflicting information given,  and Saudi websites for visas don’t give an option for marine transit visas. I don’t want a tourist visa which costs $200 and is good for a year for a short day trip in Jeddah..  Does anyone have specific information for cruise ship passenger visas?

I’ve just been reading some reviews of Jeddah on the Viking World Cruise thread. There might be some useful information there as well, although SS visits Jeddah more than others.  Also the “Ports” thread.

I think there is some information in my thread for this years WC. We did it onboard with the assistance of the ships Finance Officer.
