Someone else mentioned it was Leialoha and Tiki Dave (ELUA) doing the SF to Hawaii runs. But even if it is Rowena and Brian, they have native Hawaiian blood in their ancestry, but Brian is clearly a large part Filipino too. There are very few pure native Hawaiians; maybe Ni'ihau has a few, but the entire population of Ni'ihau is below 90 people now.

Roatanfans Posted November 25, 2022 #28 Share Posted November 25, 2022 Our first Princess cruise was the San Francisco to Hawaii cruise. It was the perfect storm of a great deal, my kids finally being old enough to leave with grandma and our anniversary. Having finally gotten to where the twins were sleeping through the night and my oldest was in school, my hopes for this long sea day heavy cruise was catch up on the seeming years of missing sleep and the ability to eat a hot meal and have adult time with my husband. I planned to read a book and laze around, and not much else, sounded like heaven! Nope, there were so many fun and interesting events (that cruise we had an amazing violinist and the route 66 lecturer who is wonderful). Was not the lazy, restful crossing I had envisioned, but it was so much fun (so many great activities available it was hard to choose). We have since done this sailing twice more (with the kids) and would do it again if there weren't so many other places I want to go. Everyone always talks about ELUA but the other Hawaiian ambassador teams do a great job too! 3
CruiseProGirl Posted November 25, 2022 Author #29 Share Posted November 25, 2022 Thanks for all of the great info. BTW, for the poster who asked why I was sailing out of SF instead of San Pedro, I'm actually in Central CA (Fresno) and prefer the SF port to L.A. For the poster who defended "Conversation" as an activity, I, too, have made many new friends by mMahaloeeting them on my cruises. I've met them at dinner. I've met them on shore excursions, I've met them in the casino, etc. I just think it's pretty lame of the cruise director who apparently lacks imagination, to include "talking" as a scheduled activity. In any case, I do appreciate all the feedback. Mahalo!!! 🙂

As we continue down the Smartphone centric path we are one, one day in the very near future a wife will text her husband, "OMG i c 'conversation' in the Vista Room at 3PM. We shud go c what it iz" 😁

I think it rates above the scheduled breakfast Christmas breakfast PJ party on our next cruise. They would not like my PJs christmas or no.

And kama’aina is correct, but you only qualify for kama’aina discounts if you still live in the islands. 😔 You are correct. I’m just splitting hairs. The correct term is Kanaka Maoli means Native Person, where as Kanaka Hawai’i means Hawaiian Person. Although I do not reside in Hawaii full time, I do have my born and grew up in the island State ID card that gives me Kama’aina discounts. Well, technically, I was born in the Territory of Hawaii….heehee.
