Anyislandwilldo Posted November 24, 2022 #1 Share Posted November 24, 2022 This will be my 4th time in Key West and sis and I are renting a scooter. I pretty much know my way around and we have a few sites in mind that we want to stop to visit. Is there any advice anyone would like to share about renting a scooter in Key West? Thanks! keywester33 Posted November 25, 2022 #2 Share Posted November 25, 2022 My advice is not to do it. People are injured on these all the time. It’s not discussed since nothing that could hurt a tourism business is ever discussed here, but my friend in the emergency room admission says that almost every day someone is brought there due to an injury and some are very serious. if you are committed to doing it, be sure your auto policy will cover you. The contract you sign places all liability on you if you damage or hurt another person.

CT Sean Posted November 28, 2022 #4 Share Posted November 28, 2022 To echo what Keywester33 said, scooters are dangerous in general - even more so if you aren't an experienced rider. Not sure what sites you have in mind but have you considered bikes? Cheaper and a little safer - though you still have to watch out for oblivious drivers. Even East Martello is a pretty easy ride since it's all flat
Anyislandwilldo Posted December 4, 2022 Author #5 Share Posted December 4, 2022 We've been to Key West in the past and saw all the main attractions so now we are considering an electric golf cart to get around. Since we both are mid 60's, going with a scooter is not a good idea.
AmyinVail Posted June 20 #6 Share Posted June 20 This is so true. Years ago on a cruise we stopped at Key West and my then husband and I rented scooters. It started to rain just a bit and when I went to stop at an intersection - I slid all the way through it and almost crashed into a strip mall. I was lucky I wasn't hit by a car. I was in my 20's fit and active and clearly protected by my angels!!
