Rare Alsmez Posted November 30, 2022 #1 Share Posted November 30, 2022 We're doing a round trip out of Vancouver on Celebrity Eclipse in late May/early June. ISP, Juneau and Ketchikan (plus Hubbard Glacier and the interior passage). We've got whale watching in ISP and helicopter/glacier in Juneau, but I am struggling with Ketchikan. Complicating matters is that our hours in port are short, just 2pm-8:30pm. I thought this trip to Mahoney Lake might be fun, but it starts at 1pm. https://alaskashoreexcursions.com/ketchikan/mahoney-lake-utv-off-road-safari?fbclid=IwAR27FV7aIN1HwlabqJs9Oy7U82oRWmYl9TqyYiTHydm0GRZq7lo312RpRUY Has anyone done this Jeep and canoe safari? https://www.viator.com/tours/Ketchikan/Ketchikan-Shore-Excursion-Off-Road-Jeep-and-Canoe-Safari/d942-5474PRTKTNJEEP Or any other ideas? Thanks in advance!
Rare Alsmez Posted December 2, 2022 Author #2 Share Posted December 2, 2022 Quick update - I spoke with Bethany at Ketchikan Adventurevue, the company that offers the ATV tour to Mahoney Lake. She was happy to offer a tour starting later that day to accommodate our 2pm arrival, so we are booked and ready for some off-roading! I'll report back after our trip, but I wanted to let anyone who might have the same timing issue know that you may be able to arrange a different start time to meet your needs.

I had also considered doing an ATV tour with them while in Ketchikan but opted for a Bear tour to Anna Creek with Island Wings and ATV's out of Anchorage with Alaska ATV Adventures. I'll keep this in mind for the future. Patty
rittsail Posted December 20, 2022 #4 Share Posted December 20, 2022 We are visiting Ketchikan on the Discovery in June 2023 and have scheduled the Jeep safari and canoe trip! Looks like a lot of fun and the reviews look solid.

Thanks in advance! Our cruise leaves June 4th on Celebrity Eclipse out of Vancouver BC, we will be in Vancouver on June 1st to spend a couple days sightseeing. Sounds like I am looking at the same types of tours, and also struggling with what would be in Ketchikan. For ISP I booked a more private whale watching tour through Glacier Wind Charters, thanks to advice on these forums! Great reviews, max of 12 people, and so far they have been great with communication. Seems like an great tour! https://www.g-wind.com/ Hubbard Glacier there is only the Hubbard Glacier Wilderness Exploration. I am booking that but at 340 per person for 2.5 hours I am not sure if it is worth it - but will do it anyway. Juneau I am booking the helicopter Dogsledding with extra landing through alaska shore tours. Seems like all the heli tours , even from the ship, use the same companies and Costal helis ar ein most pics I have seen. Booking through the company is a little cheaper (749 pp) and includes the extra landing! https://alaskashoretours.com/excursions/juneau/helicopter-dogsledding-with-extra-landing/ Ketchikan - not sure yet. Rare Alsmez Posted June 8, 2023 Author #6 Share Posted June 8, 2023 (edited) Update now that we're back - we did the Mahoney Lake tour with Ketchikan Adventurevue and it was fantastic! The only drawback is that there's a 45 minute bus ride to get to the location - a bit tiresome, but worth it when you see how gorgeous and remote the location is. Totally unspoiled rainforest, not a house or building in sight! The crew (especially Jasmine) was great and the whole thing very well organized. Beautiful scenery and driving the UTVs was tons of fun. I wish we had more time at Mahoney Lake, though, or an option to do a short hike around the area - maybe they'll add an extended version at some point. Highly recommended! I was also not sure whether the Hubbard Glacier was going to be worth it but IMO, it totally was - we saw so much calving, so close - it was incredible. Loved the helicopter tour to Herbert Glacier and the dogsledding as well. The glacier landing was amazing - I felt like I was walking on the moon!
