Will be visiting Aruba for the day end of this month. Anyone know of interesting shops (not typical souvenir/touristy) in local area not too far from cruise pier? Thanks for any suggestions. Also, any rum tasting spots?

LG Smith Blvd runs right outside the port.  Mostly tourist type shops close to port but other s down further.

As far as rum tasting, there used to be a couple of places near port but believe they have closed and now do things at resorts.  Google Rum tasting in Aruba and you might locate a tour or two.

There are Aruba  Aloe stores all over the island including in the port area. They sell Aloe products ( creams and such) made on the Island. If you get outside the port area they have a factory/farm site about 15 minutes away and do a little tour there which is interesting. Aruba Aloe sells a good quality medical cream for burns and skin irritations that we really like, we stockbup when we visit,  and lots of nice bath products.
