Hi regan3, It depends on various factors including what risks you want to transfer to a travel insurance plan. Steve Dasseos
regan3 Posted January 1, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted January 1, 2023 Items I would like included - Emergency evacuation, Medical & Dental expense, trip delay and trip interruption.
Babr Posted January 2, 2023 #4 Share Posted January 2, 2023 The Standard policy from HAL would give you stand-alone CFAR. That is the only insurance available to you from HAL as a resident of New York. Adding a third-party comprehensive policy would give you protection against other travel risks as well as medical and evacuation.
regan3 Posted January 2, 2023 Author #5 Share Posted January 2, 2023 Wasn't sure if CFAR is available to NYS residents as part of a comprehensive policy or is it available only as a stand alone policy? What if you don't know total cost of trip? Insure what you costs you know now and increase as additional parts of trip are purchased/reserved? Or wait until other parts are reserved and purchase a plan closing to departure?
Babr Posted January 2, 2023 #6 Share Posted January 2, 2023 As I understand it, New York law addresses combination policies that include CFAR with comprehensive coverage. If you do not know the final cost, Trip Insurance Store has some policies that allow you to insure just the deposit and increase the coverage as you add expenses. That way you lock in any time-sensitive benefits like the pre-existing conditions waiver or financial default. Remember that you have to include only the nonrefundable costs. Call Trip Insurance Store and talk to Steve or one of his agents. They can explain how New York law affects your choices so that you get the right policy with the coverage you want.
