I would like to go on the whale watching trip provided by the ship but would also like to consider the helicopter and walk on the glacier. As the whale trip is in the morning and we are in port till evening has anyone done the helicopter trip mid afternoon privately? The ship only offers both in the morning    Thanks

Morning is optimum for the glacier walk before the sun rises and potentially makes the top layer of snow mushy.  Also, if there is adverse weather or fog/low clouds, the helicopter may be delayed for safety reasons.  if so, a morning flight could be pushed forward by a couple of hours before passengers need to return to their ship.

 

There are other options for whale watching.  If your cruise stops at Icy Strait Point, I highly recommend doing it there.
