We will be going to Barcelona Spain, Palma de Malorca, Provence France, Florence, Naples and Rome Italy on our western Mediterranean cruise. Would you recommend a beach day at one of these ports?

No. Go sightseeing.

Agreed.

But if you want a day off from sight-seeing, Palma is your best bet.

As per Hank's post it has options, whereas in Barcelona I rate a beach day as a waste of an iconic city.

Civitavecchia has a good beach if you don't fancy the haul to Rome.

Provence is a region, needs the name of your port.

Never been there - or even to that corner of France.

So you'd need to compare the sight-seeing options there against other ports, and find out if there are worthwhile beaches not-too-far from the port.

Marseille is not a favorite city of ours but is an excellent gateway port to parts of Provence.  There are lots of decent options whether you take a cruise line excursion, book a small group private tour, or simply DIY (using trains, buses, or rental car).   For those that do not want to leave Marseille, one can take a boat over the Chateau d'If (Count of Monte Cristo fame) which is not all that impressive.  We have long felt that the best thing in Marseille is being able to get Bouillabaisse, although finding the real thing (at an acceptable price) for lunch can be a real challenge.
