Heads up! German airport strike, Feb 17th

If you have a flight connecting through a German airport on Friday, you should try and change your flight to connect through another country. The seven major airports in Germany will be in chaos due to a one day strike by security and ground staff.

 

We just changed our flights to connect through Heathrow.

Lufthansa also has their operation entirely shut down today due to IT cabling being cut by a company doing construction work.  Friends were supposed to fly from Germany to Venice and their flight was cancelled and they had already checked their bags, which couldn't be retrieved.  They're driving to Venice tomorrow.

I just downloaded the new Lufthansa app and it’s down.

They got sorted out enough that my friends were able to go back to the airport and retrieve their luggage in the evening, but nothing computer-related was working yet.

Ugh, doing Viking Ocean from Athens tomorrow. Chicago to Munich to Athens. Did not get notice from Viking at all, but my siblings got notice from United. I called, I'll hear back tonight. At worst, I guess we'll miss Greece.
