Points redemption for 3 or 4 night cruise

Hello -- I am looking for guidance from anyone who has redeemed 50,000 BOA CC points for the:
 

3 or 4 night Royal Caribbean cruise, (minimum available oceanview stateroom); value of cruise vacation fare may not exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000 USD value)

 

This seems like it would be a better deal ($1,000 value) versus redeeming for OBC ($500 value) but I can't find much information on it. Can anyone shed some light on their experience or understanding of the program?

 

1. Do I need to find a oceanview stateroom where the cruise fare does not exceed $1,000 prior to redeeming? Would this be before or after any promotional discounts?
2. Can I think of this as a $1,000 credit I can apply towards any stateroom at or above an oceanview?

I believe it's just a credit, but if you call the number they can get it all sorted out for you. REALLY helpful folks there.
