Relaxing Rita Posted March 21, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 21, 2023 Need some help from you.... we will be in Lisbon port from 7am-4pm in September... we have been to Lisbon previously and loved it so now we would like to do a tour to Sintra and back to the ship. We do not have time for an 8 hour tour, has anyone done a shorter one they could recommend? There would be 2-4 of us seniors. Thanks
edinburgher Posted March 21, 2023 #2 Share Posted March 21, 2023 (edited) We do not have time for an 8 hour tour, has anyone done a shorter one they could recommend? Istead of a tour, you could consider a DIY trip where you could spend as much or as little time in Sintra as you choose to spend. It is a very easy and popular trip from Lisbon as you can take a train to Sintra,(40/45 minutes) and once there, there is a tourist train which runs a circular route around the town, including uphill to Pena Palace. It starts/stops at the train station so a very easy transfer and it has several stops along the route. There should be much info to found online for getting between Lisbon and Sintra, also information on the tourist bus which runs around Sintra. And very easy to find all previous threads and the helpful replies given if you go to the correct forum (noted below) and insert ithe word SINTRA into the empty SEARCH box under your username before hitting the little spy glass. All previous threads containing that word will appear in the results ready for you to read. And you would probably get more responses if you were to re-post your thread on the correct forum which is OTHER MEDITERRANEAN PORTS. Senga Posted March 21, 2023 #3 Share Posted March 21, 2023 @Relaxing RitaSintra is WONDERFUL but, being there is 4 of you and your time is limited, I would recommend a taxi once you arrive in Sintra. The tourist train is fine UNLESS there are crowds waiting for it which is what happened to us. An entire school group was waiting. Taxis are not allowed to pick up random passengers from the sites (which we didn't know) so we had to make arrangements "on the quiet" with a driver who was waiting for his regular customers to complete their tour. This necessitated us walking a ways down the hill in order to meet up with him. Follow the advice from edinburgher and see if you can find a taxi tour you can arrange in advance and, since your time IS limited, decide what you really want to see because you just don't have time to see everything.

edinburgher Posted March 22, 2023 #5 Share Posted March 22, 2023 Great advice, thank you both very much for your replies! I made a mistake with the following comment. There is a tourist train which runs a circular route around the town It is not a TRAIN, it is a BUS.
cyntil8ing Posted March 22, 2023 #6 Share Posted March 22, 2023 Last summer, we booked a private excursion with Spain Day Tours. We went to Sintra for a few hours, then stopped in Cascais where we had lunch and visited the beach before returning to the ship. It was 436€ plus tip for the full day. A partial day may be less. They also offer a shared small group excursion but we wanted some beach time, so we decided to go privately. LeDemonBlond Posted March 27, 2023 #7 Share Posted March 27, 2023 (edited) Its been a few years but we used the "wehatetourismtours" tour company and custom did our Lisbon tour with them. That included going to Sintra. I would recommend them however, their transportation options were "different" and I think it still may be. In our case, it was a old german police van which still had the decals on it. It was enjoyable and not that expensive compared to other european tours. They picked us up and dropped off at the dock where the ship was.
