Unearthed Posted March 11, 2006 #1 Share Posted March 11, 2006 So I've been spying on the community here for a few weeks now while we looked for our first cruise...and now that we finally booked it I figured I'd say "hi." My girlfriend and I have never been on a cruise together before although my parents (who have been on a few) took me on a Carnival when I was about 12. We chose the Sept 16th Spirit sailing from NYC to the Virgin Islands and Bermuda in a BE cabin. We were a little worried about being too far forward or back but it turns out we are 2 rooms from a better category so I think it'll be fine. I'm 26 and she is 28 so hopefully there will be enough going on for us although we sure do like to relax too :D Hopefully it's a good choice...seems we have a while to ponder our decision haha! Unearthed Posted March 11, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted March 11, 2006 Thanks for the welcome! Cruising you were actually the one who caused us the most grief with those pictures of your penthouse! ;) It looks soooooo nice and we really wanted to stay in one but we just couldn't afford it. Maybe someday!
cruisingfromMN Posted March 11, 2006 #5 Share Posted March 11, 2006 Thanks for the welcome! Cruising you were actually the one who caused us the most grief with those pictures of your penthouse! ;) It looks soooooo nice and we really wanted to stay in one but we just couldn't afford it. Maybe someday! LOL! It was quite the experience. The trouble with Penthouses is that once you have one, you become VERY,VERY spoiled. Since the sailing on the Spirit, we have had an AB on the Star and now an AE in April also on the Star. They are amazing and I'm sure sometime you will experience one too. Unearthed Posted March 11, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted March 11, 2006 Yah I bet you look right for them now! My parents had a suite on their last Celebrity but just booked a balcony for an April trip on the Star Princess.
phoenixlady Posted March 11, 2006 #7 Share Posted March 11, 2006 My husband and I sailed to Alaska on the Spirit 2 years ago. We loved her so much that upon our return, we booked another cruise on her to the Southern Caribbean. On our Alaskan cruise, we both hit big slots jackpots - it totaled $5,000! That's why we were able to book another cruise imeediately. On the So. Caribbean cruise, I hit a slots jackpot for $1,000. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but we hit them both on the second night out. According to Slots Magazine, NCL has the highest slots payoffs. So, bring a little money for the Casino too. The ship itelf is beautiful. The food is great, the entertainment is great and the service people are wonderful. I'm sailing to back Alaska this July on Royal Caribbean's Serenade of the Seas, but I'd rather be on the Spirit. She just doesn't sail to Alaska anymore. Have a ball.:D :D :D

newmexicoNita Posted March 11, 2006 #9 Share Posted March 11, 2006 As everyone else has said, welcome to the boards and don't hesitate to ask all the quesions you can think to ask. We have fun here, get a little defensive from time to time but we do learn from each other. You will be fine in your cabin. We came across the northern Atlantic last Sept; very rough on some days and were almost totally forward. There were only 2 cabins in front of us. We managed just fine. B4andAFT Posted March 11, 2006 #10 Share Posted March 11, 2006 I, too, think you made a great choice for a first cruise. We are taking the same cruise, but probably not until 9/30. The only problem might be rough seas at that time of the year.

It's also right in hurricane season isn't it? I wouldn't be totally shocked if the route was changed.

We have AB 8170 on our May 28th cruise to Alaska. Can't wait! Our first penthouse suite! Our first butler! Our 4th time to beautiful Alaska! Thanks and have a great cruise! Colleen Posted March 12, 2006 #13 Share Posted March 12, 2006 We've sailed every year for the last 7 years, one year twice. It's an incredible bargain. Our son, now age 13, comes with us on most cruises, except for two of them when me and hubby wanted alooooooone time. This board is the best place to ask questions = everyone is more than happy to any questions that YOU and only You consider stupid. Here's my advice: take along a travel coffee mug. The mugs from the grill are never big enough and I like to carry mine around in the morning. Take a roll of duct tape and a pair of scissors. We've needed them every cruise for things that you never expect to need them for. Don't overpack. Pre-register. WaldosPepper Posted March 12, 2006 #14 Share Posted March 12, 2006 brunolvr, the stateroom number you referenced is an AE, which is quite different from an AB. Both are wonderful, but entirely different layout, size, location, etc. ;)

That's what I wanted them to take pictures of. Thanks for setting me straight!

An AB would be nice, but maybe we're slowly working our way up there! Our first 2 cruises were BD balconies on the NCL Sky and NCL Spirit, then last year it was an AF mini on the NCL Star and this year it's the Star once again but in an AE. Do you have any experience in an AE? Any suggestions from an experienced penthouse cruiser?
