Rare dcl999 Posted March 27, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 27, 2023 Is there a list anywhere of how long it takes and the best way to get to town from where the ships dock? Which ports are within walking distance? We’re going to Japan next year and I want to start looking into shore excursions and which places will be better to add to a pre or post cruise stay. Several kind souls have created viewable spread sheets on various topics. I’m hoping this is one of them.
alc13 Posted April 2, 2023 #2 Share Posted April 2, 2023 I've used Google maps for this. Shuttles (or cabs) should be available to get you into town and back.
Rare dcl999 Posted April 5, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted April 5, 2023 I’m having trouble figuring out where the ship should actually be docked for some of the cities. Ferry and industrial terminals keep cropping up.
Rare Hlitner Posted April 5, 2023 #4 Share Posted April 5, 2023 Some cities have multiple docking locations, so you will need specific info from your cruise line. In most remote ports, the cruise lines provide bus shuttle service that can be free or involve a charge…depending on your cruise line. We are on HAL’s Westerdam now and are charged $20 - $25 per person for most shuttles. If you book private tours, they will usually pick you up at the ports. ROCruiser Posted April 13, 2023 #5 Share Posted April 13, 2023 Most of the free shuttles that were available at Japan ports a few years back are now charging $20-$25 per person round trip and most ships are docked quite a distance away from city center. We were on HAL Westerdam and Diamond Princess in March and found that it's cheaper to take taxis for the 6 of us than the shuttles. Sometimes, the paid shuttles may drop their prices because they did not get enough passengers. Ask in port before taking the shuttles.
