Jabbermom Posted March 27, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 27, 2023 What beach is best for those docking in Kahului if you would like a beach day? And how to get there?
CruiserBruce Posted March 27, 2023 #2 Share Posted March 27, 2023 If you look around the board, this is discussed frequently. Kihei is closest, followed by Wailea. There is a couple of beaches just to the east of the port, but they tend to be pretty windy. Uber/taxi is a choice. Bus might work. Otherwise rent a car.

It depends on what you envision as a "beach day". If you mean taking some towels from the ship, your own backpack with sunscreen and bottles of water, you can go to Baldwin Beach Park, or Kanaha Beach Park not far from the port. If you are envisioning something like Mexico or the Caribbean where you have beach clubs where you can rent lounge chairs and umbrellas, get food and beverage service, that isn't Hawaii. You can get day passes at a few Maui resorts at ResortPass.com, but all that gives you is the right to lie by the pool/on the beach, but no food or beverage included, just available. In between the resort pass and take your own towel, you can go to a place like Kamaole Beach Park I (there are three Kamaole beach parks) near Wailea and rent beach chairs nearby. The only caution on wandering too far from the ship is be sure you have transportation BACK to the ship arranged in advance. Uber and cabs on demand on any island in HI but Oahu are an adventure in themselves.
