On most cruise lines, the food is so mediocre that it's basically just fuel to us. It's not, but it's not usually all that good. So why waste time at a restaurant when we can just fuel up and do something more fun, even if that something is just the two of us sitting together on the balcony.

We found the food quality better in the mdr for breakfast.  It's up to you

But that has nothing to do with Covid.

Not washing your hands in a public toilet has EVERYTHING to do with COVID.

The fact that you did not know that tells us how dangerous public toilets can be.

More the case with Noro than COVID where the risk of surface transmission is very low and pales in comparison to airborne spread.

Public Toilets on ships are where sick people go when they have vomiting or diarrhea.

They contaminate the space and then leave it for you to catch whatever they have.

Next time you use a public toilet on a mass market cruise ship, watch for a few minutes to see how many people wash their hands.

I have little inclination to furtively lurk in men's rooms to keep track of who is washing their hands. Whether someone else is washing their hands does not concern me.

In mid-March 2020 I asked an emergency admissions consultant at a major teaching hospital whether the then emerging panic over Covid was keeping time-wasters away from his department. (Remember that in the UK, all healthcare is essentially free at the point of delivery, so this is a problem.)

His reply was that time wasters were as frequent as ever, but that - due to the hand-washing message being repeatedly given across all media - gastric flu/norovirus/food poisoning had dropped to virtually zero.
